Games you took a while to warm up to

It's ok there's still time for you all to warm up to VF and realise the errors of your ways... It's so so long since I got to play vf vf2 in an arcade

VF2* and VF3tb still have active scenes. Apart from Tekken 7 Round whatever, is there an arcade release of Tekken that still gathers people to attend tournaments? I see Tekken as 90% normie masher series with a 10% esports scene on the side. Also, competitive Tekken fans can't stop sucking Bamco's teat. Absolutely 100% reliant on whatever Bamco ordains.

*VF2 scene is mostly online (PS360), but they do host offline meets and tournaments at times (but this is because most players are 50+)

Tekken was always behind VF while they were competing directly.
First, VF was the pioneer of 3d fighting games, Tekken only followed.
VF2 was miles better both graphically and gameplay wise than Tekken 2. It had a competitive scene, while Tekken 2 had none.
VF3 can not even be comparred graphically to Tekken 3. It was light years ahead. The game is still played heavily to this day.
When VF4 pushed for innovative character customization and ranking, Tekken 5 copied the systems blatantly.
Virtua Fighter 5 squashes Tekken 6 gameplay wise. It is one of the best fighting games ever made, while Tekken 6 is completelly forgotten.
Tekken series gained popularity because they were cheap pcbs comparred to Model 2 and 3. Arcade operators bought them to the detriment of the super expensive Model boards. VF3 was almost non existent in US and European arcades due to tje high price of the board. Also, Tekken received good home conversions, while for Sega it was difficult or even impossible to replicate their expensive boards at home. Moreover, Playstation destroyed saturn by 10:1 selling ratio, so more people were exposed to Tekken than VF.

I absolutely love the very first Tekken and still play it, but even though Seiichi Ishii who also worked on VF1 designed most of the mechanics, I see it as a game that inherited the mantle of games like World Heroes 2, not VF. Mashing buttons is enough for some normie fun times, if movement and learning basics are beyond someone's skills. IMO, The fact that it's so unbalanced and broken makes it fun. I mean come on, Tekken acts like it's a 3D game but the very first thing they ditched were the 3D stages VF introduced. Dumb ****, but fun.

I had a Saturn and my bro a PlayStation so I really tried to like VF more than Tekken and I loved VF2 at the time but Tekken won my heart in the end, Tekken 3 and Tag Tournament especially

Been trying to make myself buy and play MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero for about 15 years now, but I just can't. I like klassic MK and I like krappy side scrolling action games Chakan and a bunch of licensed Marvel and DC stuff on the MD that I won't bother listing here. So it would make sense for me to even try it.

Last night I saw a Shinnok meme from the game and also heard there was a QOL improvement patch for the game, so once again I opened a random longplay video to remind myself of what I would be getting into. And it's a NOPE within one minute of watching any footage of that game.

What did I do then? Played more Sega Ages: Shinobi on the Switch. Awesome game.

Ibara for me. I picked up the PS2 version almost 10 years ago before sinking any real time into the Raizing Yagawa games. The forced filter that's applied in that version really makes it look like **** and it was pretty unapproachable to me at the time. After playing a bunch of other Yagawa games and picking up the PCB I definitely enjoy it a lot more now.

Atomic Runner on the Genesis/Mega Drive

I've known about the game for years but because I wasn't drawn to the Aesthetics I gave it a pass
It was only until I saw it recommended on GameSack that I said why not give it a try

Booted up my EverDrive and gave it a go
To my surprise it ended up being a fantastic game!
I couldn't believe how much fun I was having

Picked up a legit cart on ebay recently too and now its in the collection
