Re: Name that game?
I've found a reference to mine on Reddit. Seems like someone else is searching for the same game:
[ARCADE][1992-1993] A sidescrolling "Boss rush" beat em up with Final Fight like graphics
I remember playing this on several ferry trips. Visuals was simalar to the later Final Fight games with very large sprite bosses. The things I rememeber was, that the game featured only bosses in a fixed order but in a sidescrolling beat em up progression system. The colors was a bit pale, but the characters were very large and well animated for the time. The bosses took alot of beating to go down, but would flash red in an increasingly rapid pattern, when near defeat. The release year is an estimate based on the graphics, but if its not a Capcom game, at least it looked like a job by Capcom in many ways (and I have googled capcom beat em ups of the time, but have not found it).

Re: Name that game?
what games have you ruled out ,the boss rush part has me perplexed tbh , the long bars and big graphics lead to a few games ,sengoku 3 bit later than 91-92 ,nightslashers but none are really a boss rush game but I'm fairly sure there are long **** energy bars in them.Anything on styling of characters ? setting etc ?

<trk>:I remember catching a big fat one and my friend said "throw it back in, that one already tastes like wood"

Re: Name that game?
The only boss rush games I can find are fantasy themed: Red Earth, Metromquester, and Monster Maulers. Aside from that all of the Final Fight style games Ive looked at have the usual popcorn-style enemies that go down after 4 hits.geotrig wrote: October 16th, 2023, 3:23 pm what games have you ruled out ,the boss rush part has me perplexed tbh , the long bars and big graphics lead to a few games ,sengoku 3 bit later than 91-92 ,nightslashers but none are really a boss rush game but I'm fairly sure there are long **** energy bars in them.Anything on styling of characters ? setting etc ?
As the other dude mentioned above on Reddit. It was a straight-laced contemporary style setting similar to Final Fight. The main thing was that all of the sprites were physically large, but It wasn't a straight one on one like the other boss rush games. I think there were at least 2 enemies to deal with at the same time.
Someone has previously pointed me towards Knuckle Bash, but I don't think the sprites are large enough and the enemies seem to go down too quickly.

Re: Name that game?
Very interesting game! Ive never seen it before

I'm starting to think it could be Solitary Fighter. Its just the lack of scrolling once the enemy is defeated that's bugging me. The big sprites and theme deffo fit the bill!

This looks spot on.
Solitary Fighter was an interesting title too. I thought of Taito when it was described as pale colors.

Re: Name that game?
I think I've actually found it. I decided to take another look at Knuckle Bash and after a bit of research realised you can pick the opening stage. The 2nd option is the one I remember, rather than the hotel.
I'd previously discounted Knuckle Bash as the opening level looked nothing like what I remembered.
