Re: New Daytona
Underwhelming.
Not unexpected of course, and things might improve when more details are revealed, but from what I can see so far it is a missed opportunity. If you get the Daytona license back and are doing an arcade only game, make a big statement.. a loud in your face statement! The cabinet design looks a little childish and the artwork and livery weak.. what's with that marquee/screen thing? Get the name across the top in big letters!
This is how a follow-up to a great title should look and sound
I wonder who developed the game? I know the in-house AM developers were disbanded a decade or so ago - it just states 'Sega Amusements' on the attract sequence I've seen. Hopefully with this only being a prototype they'll at least add a 4 way shifter for the full release (there appears to be space for one in the slot on the dash). Also I hope the FFB will be more Model 3 'manly' than GRID feeble
Well, looks like more info has been uploaded..

Re: New Daytona
Looks like it has potential if this is an early build.
The way the car responds when you hit the wall looks super frustrating with the instant slow down, maybe have the car spin back out on track in some cool way or show damage?
I wonder the players super bad or just struggling to get feedback thru the controls.

Re: New Daytona
I may be the only person who thinks that the Daytonaaaaaaa theme is irritating.
Looks like Sega sub-contracted this to Raw Thrills...

Re: New Daytona
I have a big problem with the oversaturated childish colour style, reminds me of a Gamecube game. When I was a kid and saw Daytona the first time it was the most bad thing I have ever seen, it was like war on wheels. This looks like Justin Bieber is on his way to the supermarket to buy new orange juice.

Re: New Daytona
About the colors, I really like a more colorfull presentaion at arcade racing games. The reallife colors are for people that play simulations.
I like it so far, but there is definately space for improvement.

Re: New Daytona
Can't comment on how it plays, but visually it's missing the sparkle and grit that I associate with 1 & 2. Daytona-lite.

Re: New Daytona
From an Arcade Heroes Youtube comment "It is being handled internally by Sega Amusements International, which is based out of the UK. Many of the same people who have worked on every Sega arcade release for the past several years have been involved with this (that includes titles like Sega Rally 3, GRID, Showdown, Operation GHOST, etc)"
Apparently it's only 50% complete so shouldn't be too rash in my judgement. It doesn't look right to me but maybe they'll finessee that a little. Pity Sumo Digital aren't involved I'd trust them to get things looking a little sharper.

Re: New Daytona
Haven't played the new Daytona yet, but just recently played the new Cruis'n Blast. Man, that game was such a let down... Seemed like a mix between Fast and the Furious with Rush 2049. Also, only one pedal on the cabinet for gas, no brake pedal! Granted, I can't remember ever using the brake pedal in that game lol.

Re: New Daytona
I thought they were going to rush this out in January or February, totally forgot about it. The new trailer looks a lot better. The car model is still absolutely hideous though.

Re: New Daytona

This has started to appear in seaside towns around the UK. There is a twin set up local to me (Great Yarmouth). I think it's great, although I can understand how people hoping for a fully fledged sequel may be disappointed.
I've posted a mini write up on my blog:
