Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
I really like the Pony MIII 25. The design and the size. Perfect for people with limited space. What would be the price for one (or two
) today?
Or would it be easier to build one myself, considering the monitor sourcing problem? I'm normally for the originals, but the shape of such a cab could be easily be replicated and I don't really like to wait for years to get a cab with a monitor situation like that...

Damn I would love to be able to build one of these things. Do you have experience with metal work?Shadolf wrote:I really like the Pony MIII 25. The design and the size. Perfect for people with limited space. What would be the price for one (or two) today?

The metal work is no problem. More of a problem is that I would need at least fotos of the parts and inside. Otherwise I have to go for the outer shape and do the rest complete with my own design.zumbito wrote:Damn I would love to be able to build one of these things. Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
IIRC it consists of:
Base
Bottom front section
Bottom rear section
Stiffeners between front and rear
Monitor section
Speaker/remote board access panel
Lightbox lower
Lightbox upper
PCB door
Coinbox inner
Coinbox outer
Rear door
Monitor chassis tray
There are plenty of photos of the guts in a Google image search.
The monitor section is pretty complex.

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
I will do some research and do the CAD files and cost calculation when I have some time. Maybe I could do it as a 25" and 21" version. The monitor section needs to be custom anyway. I would use my Sony Trinitrons.
A general question about Pony's. Is the monitor angle confortable to play? I never played a Pony or Pony Table, but I always thought tables aren't that confortable, right?
I'm thinking about such a project for over a year now. When I've done all the calculation etc. I can think about making more than one. I think I will make a thread when I really start.zumbito wrote:Would you mind making two?

The Pony angle is perfect, incredibly comfortable - better than Astro etc. Table not so.

There's some bloody good metal work gone into the PM3. The top piece, around the CP and monitor, has curved edges and barely any visible joins. I've no idea how you'd make that.

£3,000+ assuming you can find someone willing to sell one in the first place ...zumbito wrote:Around how much are these going for these days?

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
How does the Pony MK3 screen angle feel compared to that of a Capcom Status 18/25? I have received a few trade offers for my Status 25, but this is what have me worried the most since I love the status 25 screen/CP angle, and all the Ponys I have seen so far where missing the tube so I can't compare.cools wrote:The Pony angle is perfect, incredibly comfortable - better than Astro etc. Table not so.

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
Isn't it identical?
I'd hang on to your Status for dear life. You won't get another one for the money you paid for it, if you can even find someone selling.
The Pony is a multi-grail award winner now.

Judging from internet pictures it seems so, but I never seen both in flesh side by side to compare.

My brother has incredible welding capabilities. When they've done it, someone other can too.pubjoe wrote:There's some bloody good metal work gone into the PM3. The top piece, around the CP and monitor, has curved edges and barely any visible joins. I've no idea how you'd make that.
So building one definately wouldn't be more expensive as an original. As I don't necessarily need an exact copy, I could optimize some parts.Rossyra wrote:£3,000+ assuming you can find someone willing to sell one in the first place ...zumbito wrote:Around how much are these going for these days?

You'd be better off reproducing metal enclosures for Sega HOT-2001 panels instead, like these:Shadolf wrote:

theres certainly a "huge" market for something like this

A "huge" market? Really? Such things would be absolute no problem to do. What would be the price tag, people are willing to pay for?copados33 wrote:You'd be better off reproducing metal enclosures for Sega HOT-2001 panels instead, like these:Shadolf wrote:

There was a guy over at the Shoryuken.com forums who started a project to make these in wood (MDF), but I don't know how that ended, you should check there, I'd buy one for sure.Shadolf wrote:

Hey cools, why is it that there is a Taito logo on the backlite marquee of your pony?

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
Some years ago I was thinking about making wood clones of the Pony III. Yeah, I was desperate, nothing happened though naturally.
For a metal remake, do a Kickstarter, man. Really.
