mcs's professional crayon drawings

Post by maxchainsplendid »

I'm sure some of you are more than familiar w/the Radiant Silvergun movestrip/A4 flyer scans that have been floating around the web forever. Kudos to the guy who ever did them, as they're certainly better than nothing - but man, they were ugly  Seeing as how Radiant is definitely one of my favorite/most played titles - I've been dying to redo them forever. The tough part was of course the renders of the ships, but as a lot of you surely know - the saturn disc actually has those on it, so with a ton of patience and commitment, I finally got them done, and in English as well :)

The toughest part about Border Down was by far the translation. The strips have a ton of text, and a ton in Kanji translates to a **** in English. I took the Engrish route to make up for it a few times  One thing that was cool though, was that G.rev's site still has the Border Down "how to" on it - so I was able to get the same screenshots from there :)

The BD marquee was another story - I had an absolute **** copy to start with - and basically, I had no choice but to keep the girl, earth, and the ships, redoing everything else. The major difficulty was cleaning up the cut renders to look good with the freshly drawn new parts. In the end, I think I finally nailed it though -

Image

For just one damn strip - UD was a pain. In the end, I actually had to change up a few aspects of it, like the camo texture & the textures in the rough border shapes. Other than that thought, it came out pretty awesome -

Image

And of course - the 3rd Strike A4. Obviously, as this is printed B1 size, the coolest thing about this one was that I had nearly all the hi-res character renders to start. The rest was just textures, shapes, and text of course. In fact, the only 2 things kept from the original, were the logo, and the small drawing of Makoto parrying Q in the upper right. Oh and there's one other change I made - yet I'm pretty sure that most would agree it's for the better :D Owners of the A4 should be able to spot it....

Image

I just wrapped up w/an the Under Defeat logo - which was a nightmare btw. I made up a fairly simple, original design poster w/it that I'll post a pic of later. And as another forum member had requested - If you're like me and love designing this type of stuff - here's a link to a 300DPI design template for the Uni Style marquee - http://www.mcs-arcade.com/files/NaomiMQTemplate.psd And as far as the move strip - the exact dimensions are 48cm x 7cm - so have at it :awe:

drama free for this thread dude - :)

And yeah dude - you should've seen the ghetto photocopy I had to work with when I started on that BD marquee - Whomever printed it did it from a wrinkled dirty scan  Didn't look much better than this, which I finally found btw -

Excellent work - looks the biz!

I should dust off my felt tips, tbh.

That actually never even occurred to me

Here are pics of the ud & radiant posters - ah, the benefits of redrawing this stuff :awe:
The UD logo was a nightmare to get the texture right - and since the only hires art I had for it was the 2 nazi chicks, I just kept it simple -

Image

Eng text for RS at the bottom:

On 9 July 2520, the Earth Federal Army dug up an octahedral object from prehistoric earth layers. Along with the object, there were also the remnants of a "Creator"-type robot. On 14 July, the object suddenly emitted white light and destroyed the entire earth.

As the pilot of the starfighter Radiant Silvergun you are sent back in time in search of the key to save the planet. In various time periods you will battle hordes of enemies in search for an alien being knows as the Origin. Only by destroying the Origin can the dark future of the planet be altered.

If you really want to redeem yourself for your inkjeterry :)

Make a huge Garegga Poster from the Saturn cover or arcade flyer.

There is a saturn poster that is rare as hell, but good lukc finding a scan.

Then I would give you pennance.
15khz upscaled is cheating

I got these posters from Sean the other day, which where supposed to be for Poolchamp originally, but for some reason or other he wasn't happy. Think we can draw a line under that one though! *ahem*

Anyway, I have to say, they are very very fine indeed. Nice and glossy, clear, bright.

4 panels in a row which will look cool individually framed, each one is about A2 in size, so the whole row is about 5 or 6 feet long! :)

My only complaint would be that the tube they came in smelled like cigarettes or something and had me craving a smoke! ****! ;) lol

Seriously though, these are awesome, and will be adorning my game room wall (when I get one) don't take my word for it, scope out the pics below and judge for yourselves...

Good job man, I'll be ordering some nice Naomi marquees soon.

I'd be interested in seeing what sort of job the Epson rip at work would make of the Ikaruga marquee - I't suposed to be good enough to produce colour accurate proofs for the packaging my wife buys. Best bit is it uses rolls of glossy 120gsm paper so any length can be printed.

Besides - my copypro one got ripped when it stuck to the back plate on the marquee.

Sorry bout the smoke man, those had been sitting around for quite a while  Glad you like em though, and yeah - 18" x 24" frames are super common/cheap here in the states, I'd imagine it's the same there no?
