Taking the plunge into Chinese tablets. Ridiculous price for the tech, provided all works well of course

If Safari's crashing on you today turn off Safari search suggestions. It's developed a weird bug.

Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
Colour me impressed. Build quality as good as I've seen, zero software issues (it came with a completely clean AOSP type build on and Google Play preinstalled, no other nonsense). Downside - the processor clearly isn't quick enough to drive all those pixels, at least not in Android - I hear Win 10 performs better but I've no interest in touching that. Great as a browser/app/entertainment tablet, just not so great for games.cools wrote:Taking the plunge into Chinese tablets. Ridiculous price for the tech, provided all works well of course![]()

Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
I'm looking into getting a new too-expensive-thing-to-browse-web-with. So far my choices have been a Surface tablet + keyboard, a Macbook or an iMac, but maybe I am missing something? I don't want anything Xbox huge. This late 2009 mini I've been relying on is choking and I also want to replace monitor I am currently using because I can't stand this TN panel anymore. I have a 46" Syncmaster if I want to use a bigger screen for some reason. Do you guys have any recommendations? I'm asking because I honestly can't be arsed to read any reviews myself. All I know is that the latest Macbook model doesn't even have a proper USB port. I don't play PC games really, and I have an old circa 2007 PC laptop for emulation purposes. So, help out a tech wiz plz.

Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
I personally wouldn't go anywhere near Windows 10, but I accept that as a thing to browse the web with it's not bad.
The Thinkpad X1 Carbon I use in work is the machine I wanted to buy 5-6 years ago but didn't exist at the time. It's the fancy pants WQHD model with touchscreen. We picked up a 2nd generation (brand new in box) model for a quarter of the price of a current gen...

Hmm. The reason why I'm also doubting getting a Surface is because I don't actually need a touchscreen.
EDIT: That fancy Thinkpad is 2000+ Euros.

Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
I just got a MacBook Pro 13.3" this week and it's beautiful
One of the main things that put me off getting a Surface is that it looks really awkward to actually use on your lap. I have an HP Envy touchscreen thing for work and although it's handy for AutoCAD and Excel I wouldn't miss it if it wasn't touchscreen. I sometimes forget it even has a touchscreen.

Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
Hence find an older model
The chassis and screen is the same, just not as swanky a CPU

add some ram and a ssd and you should be sorted for the next years. Else get a iPad.TheRedKnight wrote:I'm looking into getting a new too-expensive-thing-to-browse-web-with. Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
I've had a MBP for a month now. I love it. Can't recommend one enough.
I do think the price is way too hefty, but I'm recommending it for people who think that owning an arcade cab at home makes sense.

About to buy an ipad pro Liam Neeson.... Got a few questions for you guys that have used one or owned one....
I'm going to use it as a drawing pad when mobile and a computer tablet with astropad when I'm at my computer.
Questions...
1. Can I open up the art files on my PC, specifically in photoshop?
2. If it does... can I use it on both mac and pc?
3. What format do the art files save in?
Cheers.

If anyone uses Firefox on Android and are sick of its slow performance - try JumpGo. Adblocking built in, clean UI, and damn quick.

1. what programme are you using (or intend to) for input on the tablet?
2. the current version of adobe is creative cloud designed to be used across machines (essesntially a log in and you download the programmes needed to that computer/mac) so shouldn't be an issue. there is also some degree of cloud storage but I use illustrator not photoshop so don't know the exact ins and outs for that and have issues with it even when not working remotely. CC is an annual subscription of starting at £70 iirc (might be student price

3. in adobe cc you can save the file as any previous version of the software e.g. illustrator v1-v6 +CC for backwards compatibility and also as pdfs, jpgs etc, but it saves to cc format as default, so can be troublesome when having to use previous versions as you need to remember what version to save it in, e.g. at my uni they're still on 6 so I have to save my work to v6 illustrator to show it when in uni or print from there

Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
Thanks for the reply!
I don't fully know yet as to what program I will be using in pad mode... Nearest one to Photoshop hopefully.
I did read that "astropad" let's you hook up the iPad pro to a computer and use it like a wacom pad... Does it act like a cintiq?
Basically I want a cintiq companion. But both versions 1 & 2 aren't fully there for me yet. Among the reasons are bad battery life and it's still not proper portable imho.
Though now we are hitting September... I'm gonna see what Apple, MS and wacom have up their sleeves.

Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
No worries. I'm not well versed in the tablet/pad to PC/Mac interface thing so can't really help but I'll have a look as ive been thinking about doing the same to speed up my process a bit.
I would hold off until black Friday the deals that pang put up last year in the thread were equivalent to student/school discount which apple reduced last month so will probably be the best you'll get unless you go 2nd hand
