I haven't bought any records in ages, but I was dumb enough to pre-order one of those Streets Of Rage limited edition vinyls.

Re: Hot Wax!
I use my fingernail to remove small stuff that are in the grooves. To clean them, a bit of water (Swedish tap water is that good, honest guv) with a drop of Yes (hand dishwash) in it. The dishwash solution allows the liquid to get well into the grooves. I apply this clockwise with a softened sponge, rinse it under the tap then dry it with a clean cloth. Use distilled water if you wanna play it safe.
But, kernows way is more on topic.

There's a solution for every budget but if you don't want to spend hundreds on a RCM get a Disco Antistat and mix your own fluid (a mix of distilled water, alcohol and a drop of detergent. Plenty of recipes online.)markedkiller78 wrote: What's the best way / thing to clean records? I have a fair few with inner sleeve embedded in them![]()

Re: Hot Wax!
Nice.
I'm in no way a classical connoisseur but i treated me to this:
56 CDs over 60 hours playtime of symphonies from the 17-hundreds up to present day.
I'm actually a bit intimidated by this box
but at a price of less than 80 cent per disc I couldn't say no.
Will post pictures of my latest record purchases tomorrow (hopefully)

I have one signed album. I think it would have been rude to deny Mike Stern to sign it when I bought it from him personally.

I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but I can remember the soundtrack sounding pretty funky when I watched the film a few years ago.Paulie wrote:I'm not Guy but... yeah its cool bit of vinyl, well worth a listen.markedkiller78 wrote:^ whats that Guy? Looks cool

Thanks for the link too Paulie - I got this piece of vinyl a couple of months ago...

I'd yet to find a site with the original tracklisting that I could add once I digitize, but discogs already had it listed. Crisis over!

Pita flipping it every 10 seconds, but Dat base!
Interesting mix, vocals are more recessed than the CD, but DAT BASE!
Its hard for me to see past surfer Rosa, but this is easily the best record I have.
I've heard OK computer is demo material good. Anyone got it? Pang you must.

Amazingly not yet. It's blummin pricey. I really should though as, surprisingly, Radiohead use analogue tape and every CD since The Bends has a lot of DRC.markedkiller78 wrote: I've heard OK computer is demo material good. Anyone got it? Pang you must.
The White Stripes sound great on vinyl. Nothing shows up my bass issues like WS vinyl though, so much kick drum!

Re: Hot Wax!
CD does frustrate me now. It's a format capable of wonderful things but more often than not sounds loud and compressed or bright and thin. Vinyl is a safer bet for a lot of the stuff I listen to. It often seems to be drums that vinyl excels at, on my setup at least.kernow wrote: I had my dad up here the other day listening and we put the old dad rock classic dire straits on. The vinyl absolutely murdered the CD and he was first to say it. Amazing what sound you can get from a spinny thing.

Re: Hot Wax!
I could never find a conclusive answer as to whether the UK Parlophone reissues are as good as the originals. The US Capitol ones certainly aren't and the original tapes are rumoured to be damaged IIRC. Hence I've been after a 1997 press.
EDIT: Having said that, Amazon implies that's not the 2009 180g one so it might be old stock of an early repress.

Re: Hot Wax!
Amazon UK is useless. I gooled the Asin and it should be the parlaphone repress. Its 180g in the track listing.
I'll see what arrives. The parlaphone has never been out of print from what I'm reading?
