Hot Wax!

AKA Vinyl (and other music) I Received Today

Post your latest record purchases and/or recommend stuff!

I'll start with what I got as a late xmas present.

Image
Harald Grosskopf - Synthesist (1980)
(Remastered re-release from 2011 with a bonus remix CD included)
http://www.discogs.com/Harald-Grosskopf ... se/2672689

I really dig the packaging. Very unusual yet classy. If you're into Vangelis or Klaus Schulze and the likes, check this out.

Thanks to whoever started this thread I remembered that I had not yet listened to an album I bought about two months ago. :awe:

Axehammer - Lord Of The Realm

This hasn't been released on vinyl before. Basically this just compiles material from their demos from the 80's and what not. Mine is no. 40 out of 500 made.

Do you guys shop from Discogs.com then? I don't have much stuff "missing" in my collection now and I don't have room to have my turntables hooked up. + I have DJ gear, so I can't do the whole Hi-Fi thing right now = not buying much records these days. I used to have a very nice Keenwood deck with a body made of stone, but I had to give it to my brother. It had a rather expensive stylus too. :hinthint:

I go second-hand shopping once in a while though and try to pick up some stuff for my DJ sets. Shopping in stores is awesome, online shopping is good, but you can't beat the "oh, now I've struck gold" feeling of doing some IRL bargains.

My latest pickup was the Redman / Methodman - Blackout (NOS?) from https://www.wowhd.co.uk/" - they have more stuff at good prices.

I think I've bought from Discogs about once or twice. Couldn't find the stuff anywhere else for a reasonable price so..

And yeah, nothing beats making finds IRL. Can't say I've been able to afford any of the WOW stuff I've stumbled into lately... :problem:

Not bought anything in a while but I usually pick stuff up from charity shops, second-hand markets, carboot sales and the odd indie shop. On carboot stalls & second hand markets you seem to get two types of sellers those who know what they have and want top whack for their records or people who see them as obsolete junk and only want a few pence per record. Lots of tat and scratched stuff but its worth flicking through as there are plenty of really clean classics that can be bagged for peanuts.

Nice, is it one of those cheapo jobbies I've seen for about £30 or something more pro? I wouldn't mind getting a cheap one if they work but I don't want to spend a lot as I don't have a serious set up like a lot of you do, I have an old Cambridge amp and Technics turntable and speakers

Some people use glue to clean records. I saw that on CSI. http://www.cratekings.com/clean-records ... -facelift/"

Yeah it's a cheap one, The knosti disco antistat. It works really well but everyone throws the fluid away and makes up their own with IPA and distilled water. The original fluid just leaves white gunk everywhere when it dries.

A really good investment, some vinyl cleans up so well it looks brand new after and it definitely makes a difference to the playback.
:thumbupright: cheers I'll have to pick one up and thanks for the cleaning fluid tip. I think it will be quite therapeutic job, cleaning all my vinyl on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Got a bunch of new stuff from Germany today. These are all limited pressings in various colours. :awe:

Manilla Road - The Deluge, in "oxblood" red vinyl
Manilla Road - The Courts of Chaos, in white vinyl
Manilla Road - Metal, in red vinyl
Manilla Road - Mystification, in double grey vinyl
Manilla Road - Open the Gates, in "dookie" brown vinyl
Manilla Road - Crystal Logic, in "highlighter" yellow vinyl

The white and grey ones look pretty damn boring next to all the ****, poo and blood. :shifty:

I wouldn't personally buy any of the SP remasters, digital or analogue. I prefer the originals. Mellon Collie is pricey though, I don't have it yet. I recall there are some issues with the MCATIS vinyl remaster. One of the tracks has some (unwanted) distortion or something as well as it being the compressed mix. I'm happy with my early CD to be honest.

You could buy this from me :awe: http://www.discogs.com/sell/item/225913346

So stick with my original cd. It looks like a lovely package, pity it's not up to snuff.
