I can't for the life of me work out what this 1.32GB of 'other' is on my ipad in gaytunes.

meh struggling to care.

edit: i know it's app/os files, caches and all that ****, but it was a couple hundred MB a few days ago, not 1.3GB.

iOS is about a gig but not sure if it counts as other on the disk.

Given that I will prolly buy a Nexus 7, what are the syncing apps like for Droid? Do you get an iTunes type program for music syncing and wot not?

Sod knows, I use the "drag a bunch of folders over" method for music on my phone and "drag some films over" for films. Babying iTunes was never much fun.

The majority of my listening nowadays are podcasts. Google Listen does a decent enough job for this, it's not quite as good as gPodder but manageable enough.

This has always been my preferred method if I am honest.
If you have multiple devices, I guess iCloud is quite good. If I download an App / Tune / Photo / Podcast or set a calendar events, they do appear everywhere without the need to sync but I guess Jelly Bean will probably offer something similar.

Google's method has always been sync with them, not with anything local. Works brilliantly for everything except music. Different environment and one that won't drive you nuts like iTunes (and also no risk of borking your PC with Bonjour or any other required background service)

My GSIII will quite happily play any media file too all with the no software convenience of drag & drop, MKV & Flac to name but a few no probs no converting required.

I forgot about that.... When I set up iTunes on the Mac here it took the best part of a week (87GB 20,000 files) to wirelessly sync to the NAS.

This. Never used the sync just drag folder across and refresh Mortplayer.

I think the problem with Apple stuff is that it works so well on Mac and badly on PC. It doesn't use iTunes. It just does a push when something new happens.
iCloud is syncing done right. Period.
It is totally transparent. Also open for devs so games and apps can use it between devices.
If you get a new device, logging in will sync all your messages, contacts etc and set the device exactly like your other ones and wirelessly over the internet. Very cool when you have 5 replacement iPhones

I had to use the Find My iPhone app the other day as I lost my iPhone. Realtime updates on all your apple devices via google maps is pretty nice too. I sent a remote message via the App to my iPhone. A girl found the phone and called my folks. I then remotely locked the phone and went and got it the next day... You can do a remote wipe too.

If my main machine was PC based, I wouldn't bother getting an iPhone. With Lion and a Mac, they are pretty neat tho.

edit: you can do all that find my iphone on pc too.

No iCloud tho which is a shame.
It is really handy for people without a memory (like me)

You do have icloud ._. - I use it for backups. Christ knows why though, I think I was utterly sick of itunes spraying backups all over my pc.

I guess that would make sense. The clue is in the name
I don't use it for backups myself
It syncs my calendars and reminders etc.
I find it indispensable tbh. Add a reminder on my phone and it alerts me on every device etc.

It ain't about storage for me. I have shed loads of that.
Getting everything, everywhere without doing anything is what I like.

I have a NAS 4 feet away from where I'm sitting unless the house burns down and when upload speeds get tenfold faster I'll properly consider cloud storage. eh none of my data is that important anyway.

It took about a week to backup 50GB on my home connection, the majority of which is impossible to compress/dedupe audio. Online storage will be impractical for a while, especially when local storage is so ridiculously cheap, but cloud backup makes a massive amount of sense.

Depends on your needs. Obviously if you've decided that 5TB of bluray rips are critically important backing them up online is impractical and expensive and you should review your life choices, but for most people having something that just works in the background without having to think about it until something goes wrong is ideal.

Nice. Dropbox is really handy.
Some mates of mine used Google Adwords vouchers to make an advert with their referral code. Good idea for free gigs I think.

Saying that, my mate has just moved to a HTC One X and he has said that the google integration is really tight... I'm no fanboy. I just like simplicity is all
