Forgive my lack of knowledge with OSX, but I could have big icons and buttons, but small text?

The stuff I want to interact with needs to be quick to hit without requiring huge precision, but I'm capable of reading very small text comfortably.

I guess so. Wouldn't text size just come under normal font options for whatever program?

One thing that pleases me about these highres displays is that scaling up lowres graphics is a lot more flexible. Not only are there more factors to multiply by in uniform (to nearly fill the screen), but the eye can no longer distinguish uneven full screen scaling (like if some pixels are scaled 8:1 and others 9:1). So you can effectively get the crisp 1:1 pixel look for any arcade game.

I was thinking the same and i'd rather have a touchscreen than a retina display. At least for now.

Also, i remember spending 2000€ on a ASUS M6800N, back in 2004. Msrp was 2500€ at the time. Compared to that the new macbook pro doesn't really seem to be that expensive.
Wanted: SNK Candy 18 spares. Mainly looking for a marquee holder & the "video games" sign.

Back in the day (68k and PowerPC eras), I used to look at Apple products and think they were doing something cool.

Ever since they became Wintel machines, they're boring to me. Haven't been remotely interested in an Apple product since about 2004. I really don't get the hype or the excitement.

One of the main reasons why people get powerful laptops suddenly dawned on me when I remembered I might have to lose my 'office' soon. :(

Just got mine via HE store. Student discount + getting the VAT back was a saving of nearly £600 which is most welcome!

Coincidently, my current 2008 machine has developed a fault on the trackpad so the timing couldn't be better for the new machines (although shipping has slipped to 4 weeks :wtf:) I guess it's going to be a month of phantom mouse clicks until it arrives.

I keep pingponging between 'go on buy it' / 'nah, don't buy'.

As I say, I will have to lose the office - unless I convert the loft or build a man shed (with pool/poker table, arcade corner etc etc :awe: ).

Also, I'd be surprised now if the imac's resolution increases this year.

Anyone see the iPad dropping in price dramatically soon? Asus/Google are finally providing some serious competition at an insane price.

Nexus 7 is very cool but no, Apple won't change the price.
They may however bring out a 7inch iPad to compete with the nexus / kindle fire.

If I disconnect form the internet, it runs perfectly, if I don't its so bacward and retarded I want to kick the **** out of my pc.

Someone asked me to look at iTunes today. On a corp network, with a scripted web proxy. iTunes tries to get titles from the internet. It's unable to do this, but rather than saying "Error: unable to connect to title server" or something similar, it chooses to lock up hard for an indeterminate period - we got tired of waiting for a response. Telling it not to get titles, it runs perfectly happily.

Thanks, but it's now taking 30+ mins to update my library.

I hate it with a passion. I'll update the titles thing. I hate it so much.

It's about time they binned itunes and started from scratch. It doesn't cause as much of a problem on macs apparently but I still avoid it.

Agreed.
iTunes is utter gash. Even removing syncing devices from the equation, it just sucks as a music player, organiser and store and it is even more annoying on PC.
