It was part of a three way trade between Pete, Andy and myself (see Pete's Dead 'n' Spicy thread). I paid £250, which is an awesome price for one of these imo.

Just finished chopping the bezel square, so some new pics as promised:

If there is a good way to take photos of a monitor I'm not sure what it is, but you get an idea of the quality. Other new bits are the leather steering wheel cover, black with chrome inserts to match the base, plus a new card reader from andy with much nicer artwork 8-)

Guess I can show the cab actually running now :awe:

This week on Uncle Spectre's art & crafts class, fitting v type initial d artwork to an stc type seat back.

Image
Trying to make some kind of template. Rubbing with wax crayon may be easier...
Image
Lots of faffing around. Remember kids, cut on the waste side of the line as you can always trim some more off, but you can't put some back on once cut.
Image
The finished product. Some careful slitting and overlapping needed to make the logo fit the annoying mutli-angled area.

Overall a bloody nightmare and impossible to get perfect, went on about 0.5mm wonky first time which translated to about 2cm out at the bottom. Managed to get it more or less straight second time round. Thank bejesus I won't be doing this again.

Very nearly finished shots :awe:

Paintwork still needs touching up due to assembling before it was completely dry and putting fingerprints in it (doh), not to mention adding a few scrapes since swapping monitors, bezels, seats etc (snazzer frazzer razzer). Force feedback doesn't work properly yet (waiting on cables from Jeff to troubleshoot properly). Bezel needs a respray. Rear covers not in place yet. All wiring and gubbins still needs the screw and cable tie treatment, too lazy to do it so far. Coin tower / card reader bracket to be added.

But looking pretty swanky now anyway 8-)

No lightbox but imo they make these cabs look so much more imposing. Could mount a marquee on it if I wanted, think mo still has a couple but not massively fussed tbh.

It's certainly not an easy job mate. The problem is, even if you had an accurate net of the seat back, the artwork still couldn't be made to fit perfectly as it's designed to go on a flat/slightly curved surface, not this multifaceted nightmare. You deffo need to trace the bottom part where the insert goes, luckily I kept the stc sticker that was mounted there and used it as a template. Then do a lot of test fitting, putting folds in the artwork where it'll meet a change of angle, to get the placement right. It's the four corners of the Initial D logo which are a pain, as the seat back starts to go in so many different directions. There is no way to do it without cutting some slits in the artwork and either having small sections overlapping or cutting small wedges out. It's a bit difficult to explain but you'll see what I mean when you try it! Just get it as straight as you can, work from top to bottom and get the center panel done, leave the sides of the initial d logo sticking out in thin air and then do those last. I smoothed round the main horizontal plane on the logo next, then fiddled about with the four corners to finish.

Given what a pita it is to do, the end product actually looks very decent, all things considered. Just accept the fact that you're not going to get it perfect before you begin and you'll be fine!
