Naomi Game Issue (has just got worse)

Post by wonderbanana »

And I'm back again

I brought 3 carts for my Naomi:

One Virtua Striker 2 from eBay - works perfectly.
One Gunspike from Fujita - works perfectly.
One Zero Gunner 2 from a private invidual but comes up as Error 1 'This Game is Not Acceptable by Main Board'???

Is the cart borked or is this bios related?

Bios on the Naomi itself is EPR21578H.

It sounds BIOS related, but make sure the cart is in properly

Top notch!

Surprised but putting a heck of lot of weight on it worked.

Weird since I was putting it in (I thought) fairly sternly anyways.

So relieved, of the 3 games I have this was the one I wanted to play most, phew!

Anyone know what screws you need to secure these carts?
I have a feeling this game might need them.

Sounds like it might be in secure enough now not to need screws  , especially if you'll be switching games often-ish

Some carts are a very snug fit.

You could always do what Parris did and buy a mobo for every game you have :awe:

He had them all in one of those garage rack things. It was something to behold, but in a garage rammed full of cabs not that much of an attention-grabber akshully :awe:

He had a lot of cabs though, so some of that 22 was in use... on attract at least

m3 x 30.

When mounting a Dimm, it needs m3 x 30 (3) and m3 x 70 (1).

Yeah, I've also struggled a few times when changing Naomi carts and got that error. But once it's there I haven't experienced any problems so I wouldn't care about screwing it in place unless you plan on mounting it upside down :)

Just be sure that if you are using an adjustable power supply on a Naomi that you do NOT put it at 5.2 or higher. It'll damage carts.
I'm a cheap ****. I learned to repair things to save money... even surface mount soldering!

My repair logs have moved to here. Enjoy!

ok, so what you will need is a simple multimeter that has the ability to measure DC voltages. Mine is not the cheapest, but to give an idea:
Image

Now, at the Naomi, stick the black and red probes in the power connector, as shown below (black probe at white wire, red probe at yellow wire). Put them in far enough so they touch the metal parts where the wires meet the connector pins:
Image

Now read the voltage on the multimeter. It should read about 5.1 volts:

Also probe the other connector on the Naomi, just for double checking:
Image

Tuning the 5V line (depending on what PSU you have) can be done using the v.adj potmeters on the NAC PSU (on the top):

or on the Naomi PSU:

As you can see, you can use a small Philips screwdriver to adjust the voltage.
