Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
If you can get it sandblasted locally, wrapped up & delivered. I used these guys to do my Pony-III.
Mallory Industrial Coatings Ltd Unit 1a, Peckleton Lane Business Park, Peckleton Common, Leicester, Leicestershire LE9 7RN
Cost £35 cash in hand for it to be done in white (they wrapped it up in bubblewrap afterwards too).

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
By the time I've paid for postage both ways I reckon I'd almost be at the figure I was quoted
Plus the parts could be damaged in transit, Especially when their being sent twice
I did ask the powder coater bloke how much to just sand blast, But he said if you don't coat the parts pretty quick after stripping them they start to rust which makes sense I guess.

"Yeah lets all get ponys instead, wait no lol trendy cabs" Err I think you meant Ponies didn't you ?

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
For both cabs (26 parts - I'm going to strip and spray the CPs myself when I've decided what to do with them) - sandblasted, powdercoated gloss white (2 coats so any pitting from the blasting is eliminated), bubble wrapped - ~£150.

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
Mmm so I'm paying a tad over the top then, I have half a mind to pick the bits up and just have them sanded down and just have them sprayed by a body shop, I don't think it would look as good though

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
Yeah does sound a bit pricey - I asked "is that just for blasting?" "No, thats the whole job". Between £150 and £200 he said, so price wasn't exact but I'm happy enough with those figures.
I can't figure out if the cabs were originally powdercoated or sprayed - all parts other than the panel that flips down are covered on all sides, which seems like coated + sprayed, which doesn't make sense.

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
Yes the powder coater said the same to me about it looks like it was powder coated (I think he was trying to say it would take longer to get off). Do I really want to pick up the bits again and cart them about to save a few quid though
I'll prob just swallow it
Did you drop off the bits after the quote ?

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
No, the reverse - dropped them off then waited for a phone call. They needed to get in touch with the blasters they use before they could give me a price.
Perhaps it's the prep work on yours that's making it pricey? Pens and mine have worked out roughly the same per cab, with the same method (although don't know if he's had 1 or 2 coats).

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
Yeah my bloke said you could get a cheap job done but not done properly, As in if it's not stripped properly you could get rust bubbles breaking through after a while, Prob just sales waffle but he seemed genuine and said if you want to get some more quotes and come back to us we'll be happy to do it. How long did they say yours would take ?

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
Said they'd take them to blasters on Monday. Finger in the air guess I'll have them done by the end of next week.
Up to you - at nearly £200 more than we've spent (and Pen has had work done previously, with great success) I'd try haggling, or going elsewhere. That's a lot of money.

Garg, aren't there any motorcycle enthusiats in your circle of friends? Those guys use powdercoating alot for custom bikes and therefore they'll have the contacts needed. When I'll get my other Naomis powdercoated (in about 3 to 4 years
) I'll definetely get in touch with the biker chick I know first

So, £150-175 more. Seems a bit off to me.
An alloy wheel is £25 normally. I would have thought £100-150 is reasonably expensive & £75-100 about right. I take it he’s not doing it cash in hand?
I’d call somewhere else. It's not a big job.

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
Well I phoned him and said I've got a cheaper quote and I'll be picking the bits up, So the Ponies back !, I'm going to get it rubbed down and normal re-spray (white) for £120 to £150 just over the road from me (literally)
He can't do it for 2 weeks but that's what the powder coaters said anyway
The quote from the powder coaters was excluding vat as well btw

Metal respray is a thing for its own imho. Been there with my Naomi and the overall surface of formerly powdercoated metal differs to blank painted metal (e.g. your car) or painted plastic like an Astro, according to my (professional) spray painter. Every metal cab I'll restore in the future will get a treat of powdercoat!gargoyle67 wrote:Well I phoned him and said I've got a cheaper quote and I'll be picking the bits up, So the Ponies back !, I'm going to get it rubbed down and normal re-spray (white) for £120 to £150 just over the road from me (literally)He can't do it for 2 weeks but that's what the powder coaters said anyway

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
Yeah it's a joke, I live in the car capital of england (Essex) and only 1 sand blaster\powder coater in my Town
If I want another quote I've goto go 40 miles up and road and back with no guarantee they'll be any cheaper
Good thing about Ponies though is their all metal bodies no plastic.
