1069 IN 1 OR MAME PC ADVICE

Post by siyco »

Hi fellas just need one more thing answered before i make a purchase, cab coming this week will ad pictures when it arrives, the cab ive brought is the sega blast city with original tri-sync monitor.Well im torn because i have a neo cab for my pcb's so brought this cab with the intention of it being a mame cab,
but my problem is this i dont know what to get do i get a pc with mame on i know a pc will plug up to the sega via vga at 640x480 but dont know what it will look like did it once before with a sega naomi and the screen was s**t couldnt make it out and dont know what sort of spec to get and vga card to use.
And will have to use a j-pac to connect the buttons to sync with pc as i dont want to chop the cab up NO WAY

Or the other route is a 1069 in 1 board where as all i do is plug it up to the jamma connector and give is some power and im away (i hear this has a vga port could this plug and display at 31khz) but there are a lot of **** games on them where as i only wanna play neo geo stuff cps3+2+1 through mame the are pro's and con's to both machine im sure.

This cab cost me and arm and a leg to buy so i have a budget of around £300 left to get something to put in it (before anyone says pcb's they are in me neo cab)so if you can please give me some input

If all you want to play is 2D stuff even a low spec PC will do, even a single core above 2Ghz, and any VGA card with more than 256MB of ram will be overkill.

3D games need as much beef as you can give them, MAME is still quite slow at those.

Dunno why your Naomi one would have looked crap, looks spot-on in mine, but MAME does need a lot of tweaking to get just right :awe:

These 1069-in-1 and similar literally are just running MAME. Running a PC will give you more flexibility, but probably require a bit more of a setup cost. You'd get faster hw for your money investing in a PC, and you could repair it if it went wrong. I can see the attraction of something that doesn't look like consumer PC hw though (even if it almost completely violates the MAME license :) ).
Also, MAME has nothing against '3d games' - it's all about the number of and speed of the CPU cores generally, plus the fact that MAMe is trying to become a source of documentation and doesn't really throw everything at optimisation.

Yes i agree with that my problem i think is because i have done this with a universal naomi cab using maximus at 600x800 and the picture wasnt very good hard to see and just totally dark and i dont want to go out there get a decent pc and j-pac and stuff and find its the same and the money is gone but i here that most you have you have to
use 640x480 so its even lower res and its made me weirry .But in the terms of these 1069 boards if it dont turn out well i can just sell it on ebay annd make most of me money back

Running a 31k monitor at 800x600 is out of spec, not surprised you had problems.

The Blast has a tri-sync. If it's an MS29-31 then it'll auto switch between 15/24/31k. So you can run the low res games in proper 15k. 320x240 forever!
