Probably a stupid question but...
Will a Taito Type X run on an Egret 2, or is it HD stuff only?

Depending on the game, SD only (31KHz), or HD and SD. I don't know of any HD-only games, even SFIV is SD compatible, in 4:3. You do need a JVS I/O board though, and either a monitor that syncs to 31KHz, or a converter that makes it 15KHz.

Re: Probably a stupid question but...
If you hook it up with an I/O board, it´s no problem. There is one specific for the Type-X, but you can use the ones for the Naomi as well. The perfect I/O would be the Capcom one, because it also includes a sound amp, which you would need anyway.
Which games do you want to buy?
Edit: muf was faster.

When you say SD you mean VGA/480p?mufunyo wrote:Depending on the game, SD only (31KHz), or HD and SD. I don't know of any HD-only games, even SFIV is SD compatible, in 4:3. You do need a JVS I/O board though, and either a monitor that syncs to 31KHz, or a converter that makes it 15KHz.
You'd also need a JVS psu skykid, so an E2 is not the ideal candidate

Re: Probably a stupid question but...
set it to 640x480 output
down scan it to 15k RGB
picture quality will be lacking but it does work

the Egret 2 can power a TX or TX2 system from its internal 110v AC outlet, no need for JVS PSU with TX or TX2

Re: Probably a stupid question but...
Hey guys, thanks for the tips. I'm interested in KOF XII (in the future when I can afford it.)
Sorry for these noobie questions:
I actually don't know how to adjust resolutions on my E2 - Is there a switch or something?
So I need to switch out the PSU internally? I'm running it through a HUGE stepdown at them mo?
Where can I get a capcom I/0 and what are the sorts of prices I'm looking at?
Thanks again.

Ah, so TX & X2 are proper pcs then with a kettle lead & all.Mr-Megalo wrote:Mark

My bad. I'm on the fence with the X2 seeing as I don't have a 16:9 cab & the X1 is about the same price with only semi interesting games

I've got a spare Capcom IO. I think £85 shipped is about the going rate?

you would need to change nothing on your Egret, skykid wrote:Hey guys, thanks for the tips. I'm interested in KOF XII (in the future when I can afford it.)

you would plug a Capcom I/O into your Egret JAMMA loom
connect that to the TXII motherboard via USB and phono RCA
VGA output from TXII to downscanner
downscan the 31k 640x480 VGA output to 15k ( use something like an Averkey made by Avermedia or similar)
connect that to the VGA port on the Capcom I/O
job done

Right so does the Capcom I/O have the USB and Phono RCA connected as standard?Mr-Megalo wrote:you would need to change nothing on your Egret, skykid wrote:Hey guys, thanks for the tips. I'm interested in KOF XII (in the future when I can afford it.)

What is the downscanner? Is it a seperate piece of equipment or does it come with the TTX2? And what is this Averkey software and where does it need to be installed?)
Bit confused still, but appreciating the help Megalo!

Re: Probably a stupid question but...
The Capcom I/O does all sorts of wonders, it also has a downscanner built in.
Out of curiosity, do you have a Capcom kick harness installed in your cab?
If not, it´s very easy to do, and you will most likely need it to use all buttons in KoFXII.
All in all, you will need:
-Capcom I/O
-USB cable (regular plug on one side, a smaller one on the other, don´t know what they are called, but the cable usually comes with the I/O anyway)
-VGA cable (also usually included with the I/O)
-audio cable; small headphone plug to stereo RCA (usually comes with the Type-X2)
That´s all, and it´s very easy to connect.
Like someone mentioned before, the power for the Type-X boards comes straight from the power socket, or in your case, from the voltage converter. The cab itself has nothing to do with it.

That's all I needed - finally, what do Type X 2's cost?

I have no idea, sorry.
If the VGA and USB cables don´t come with your Capcom I/O, I can send you them for free if you pay the shipping, since I have doubles.

Uhh, pretty sure it doesn't. I mean, why would it need one, it was designed for Naomi which can already output 15 KHz from the motherboard...?The Enigmatic Form wrote:The Capcom I/O does all sorts of wonders, it also has a downscanner built in.

****, you are right. I forgot about that switch, I just remembered running my Naomi on a 15 kHz monitor a few years ago.

Re: Probably a stupid question but...
the Averkey is a VGA downscanner that you input 31k (upto 1024x768 IIRC) and outputs in 15k RGB (us lucky europeans got scart cables with ours too) its a piece of hardware not software,
Capcom I/O doesn't do anything magical except except convert the inputs from JAMMA to JVS and manage the audio

No probs dude, as long as I can get it running on an E2 is the main thing. The Enigmatic Form wrote:****, you are right. I forgot about that switch, I just remembered running my Naomi on a 15 kHz monitor a few years ago.

Megalo: Right so the Averkey is a piece of hardware. ****, this is going to be expensive!

IIRC Penrhos has the same device, but under a different brand name

Re: Probably a stupid question but...
Oh, I forgot to mention that the old Type-X (so not X+ or X2) has a second video output with a sticker that says "15KHz" on it, but I haven't managed to get anything useful out of that on my own Type-X, maybe my game doesn't support it or I'm doing something wrong. A downscanner is the most sensible option but I just thought I'd mention it.
