coin drop sound in mame?

Post by tmc »

Hi - does anyone know if it's possible to have mame play a coin drop sound when the 'insert coin' button is activated?

I found on google there was a program that would run in the background and keep count of credits inserted from the frontend with a sound effect but it's been pulled everywhere due to it enabling commercially running mame and counting credits globally and not within each game.

I'm not really after this but just wanted a simple way to bring back some nostalgia with a coin drop effect on the button press.

Thanks. tmc.

"CoinFX is a small application that runs in the background of your arcade system and plays coin sound effects when you press your coin buttons.

It's configurable, and maintains a log of each players coin counts. You can choose between 3 coin sounds, or load your own personal effects."

Just had a look at the latest version but the only wav I saw bundled was a sonic the hedgehog sound effect. I'm not using windows so I didn't try the .exe are there more sounds included other than that wav?

yeah, there are four coin drop sounds empty, half full, full and coin chute.

you can play the coin chute sound then the coin sound at the end and you can have the empty sound play for a set number of coin drops, then move to the half full, then to the full as you continue to coin up. you can also see the amount you would have spent in total based on a 25c per coin cost.

that sonic wav is just to show the custom sound that can be applied if you prefer.

ps. get it while you can, apparently this sort of thing sails close to the wind for mame devs and he's already said he'll strip a lot of the features if it's asked of him from the devs.
