My skills are, to be honest, ****.

What makes me laugh is that I can have a good game & then follow it with a really bad one.

I managed to play SF4 in Sydney a couple of weeks ago, and there was a fella sat on the P1 side with a crowd around him, and saying if anyone wanted to jump on & have a go against him, then just pile on in. He'd been playing for a couple of hours, and was on stage 5 or 6 when I rose to the challenge. I beat his **** in 2 rounds, finishing with a Perfect on the 2nd.

I then proceded to have my **** handed to me by the CPU in round 1. I was ****!

Just fired up Bishi-Bashi in my Uni, set to Normal, and only got to stage 4
Snakes: They're like bits of rope, only angrier.

I once scored over 275,000 on Sinistar, and yet after over 25 years of trying i still havent cleared more than 5 levels of Juno First :(

I can also clear dragons lair using single touches.

When i see the scores acheived on shmups these days i am astounded - how the hell can people play games so well?? My only consolation is that im not good enough to ever finish a game and therefor there is always a challenge for me :D

Depends on the game. I'm alright at fighters, though anything past SF2T tends to prove troublesome. Shooters are a mixed bag (I'm brilliant at Fantasy Zone, but thats solely because of the sheer amount of play time it's had).

About a year back I'd have been able to take on anyone at SSX Tricky/SSX 3. Out of practice now.

And jpj - you can't beat RE4? It's just a straight run through. few challenges, no memorization needed at all just a couple of boss retries :) (I'm **** at Ikaruga though, it's never clicked with me)

im halfway decent at shmups and thats it.

for reference i can 1CC espgaluda just about every 2-3 runs with a ~35mil score, and atleast get to the latter stages in any other.
i can manage 2D-platform-action-run'n'gun whatever games aswell.

absoluteley **** at anything else tho, i havent finished RE4 either and i often loose with "perfect" or "flawless victory" written across the screen in fighters  i 1CCd MvC2 and xmenvsSF once i think and thats about it.

ed: forget about any kind of puzzle game, im almost colourblind :( i cant even tell the different powerups in outzone from eachother.. hate picking up that damn burner!!

Cool you mention console titles, lol - had a buddy that was addicted to Tricky in college - That game got insane, watching him play it

The only game arcade or otherwise I think I can confidently say that I am stellar at was Amplitude on the PS2 -

Don't play much console these days though, and for arcade I'm shooters through & through, however - and i'm hoping someone can relate to me on this...

Despite the fact that all my friend's think I'm "God" at shooters - I hop on these forums, and I'm like **** hell!

I've never 1 cc'd a shooter I don't think.

Ikaruga & Radiant are the only 2 games I think I've seriously played consistently for years, and my high scores are like 6mil on RS, and 10mil on Ikaruga. In the scheme of things, that's like not really that good, lol

Reminds me of when I learned to play guitar - sure I can play, but then I watch Eric Clapton & I'm like goddamit I suck

Same thing with me :( I can tell some types of power up apart though, but if a game decides to put a green and a orange or yellow, or a blue and a purple, it becomes an issue.

I’d have to say that my sKilZ are a little better than average. I used to be pretty decent at SFZ3 & I thought I was good at SF3.3 until I played some really good players. I can pretty much 1cc any 2d fighter I’ve played on default settings apart from SSF2X, that game still rapes me to this day, but I’ve lost interest to a certain degree.

Thanks to my recent addiction to shmups (the past 2 years) I’ve not really played more than 10 hours of any genre. I’m getting better, but sometimes it’s seems like a 1cc is an impossible task.

I can get to the final level / boss in most of the easier shmup titles. Esp Rade, Esp Galuda, DDP etc but the 1cc is just out of my reach :( It’s so frustrating to get so close, then having 20mins to play through again to die at the same point or even before it in some instances.

The only shmups I can 1cc are, APB & Deathsmiles. There are a few that I’m close to clearing, but I end up moving on to something new, Muchi Muchi Pork being my latest addiction.

I enjoy games a lot better when I’m competent at playing them. I don’t need to be an expert to enjoy the games, but being good helps.

I play a lot of fighters at a mid level (better than most worse than pros) I improved a heck of a lot when i went to japan you play a lot of difrent people with varying skills until then I had been playing Ric and my playing was pretty stagnent only improving a little bit. I guess the important thing is to watch other people play and also to play other people as you can learn somehting from everyone.

Cheers jpj. The number of extends is just crazy. Im loving it at the mo. I've played on that MMP of yours too :)

When you ask who / what, I never fail to be impressed by Gaijinpunch & EOJ's scores on the newer titles. I would love to see someone 1cc something like Ketsui or DOJ.

Can you clear DOJ?

hehe thats average in japan :P theyre all nuts when it comes to bemani stuff!

i have alot of pinball friends and im always awestruck when they play (some of them are/were on the winning team in the world championship even), i myself am a very mediocre pinballer and seem to rely on "luck" alot when it comes to scoring on them :? really amazing to watch someone completely destroy a game while hes talking about it and what hes doing.

"ok if i ht that loop up there, then that loop over there, then lock the ball in that hole over there I will get multiball"
ding, ding, ding - MULTIBALL!!
amazing stuff really!

My problem is lack of time....

I can only get about 5hrs of game time / week at the weekends, so it makes it much more difficulkt to become consistently good at something ( compare that to playing 1hr per day for 5 subsequent days where you WILL pick things up much faster )...... every time I make forward progress the time away from gaming puts me back a step......

Typically I am a lvl 4 Cave at the mo' on most things ( apart from Ibara ) can hold my own against an average player at SF2 / KOF etc.... just not consistent enough..... :(
