Sega Astro City - some things you may not know!!

Post by chubsta »

I'm sure you already know that Sega Astro's are too big to go through a normal doorway, and that you have to split them in 2 in order to move them around the house. I actually didnt know this until my new one turned up this morning. And I didnt know how much hassle they are to split in 2...

Still, I've learned those things now and 3 other things i have learned are ....

1. When you have split them, the main section housing the monitor looks like it should be able to stand upright on its own. This is a lie, at the first opportunity it will fall forward and crash onto the door-frame, only stopping itself from falling completely over by breaking its fall with the monitor screen itself...

Image

2. A doorway is softer than a Sega Astro monitor screen (thank God)...

3. It's never going to leave this room!!

Unfortunately I cant test to make sure everything works because i dont have a game board i could try with it, but i guess it should be ok - fingers crossed :D

Astro/New astro will go through most doorways if you remove the door stop from the sides of the frame-the thin strip of wood shown in the photo next to the crash site. This will give you about 5mm to spare and is easy to refit once the beast is in ;)

Looks fairly fixable. Isn't that the vertical deflection that needs re-connecting?

If you have a strong back it only take an exra 60 seconds to undo the 4 bolts and take the monitor out. Makes manouvering it a whole lot easier!!!!

Now sell me that cocktail

That's hilarious! I'm glad it worked out. I had to remove all the trim from the door to get mine through.

Whats that lil' cab called to the left of the astro? I've never seen that before.

I might be moving and will need to dis assemble my astro because I had to take the front door down to get it in this place and might not have the same option at the new place

in retrospect i would have no problem moving this thing now - it came apart and went back together very easily, and next time i will remove the monitor from the cabinet as well just to make things very easy. I guess last time i just didnt have a clue what to do and didnt think enough befor i did it - i was too excited and just wanted to get the damn thing up and running!

certainly wouldnt start taking doors out etc
