The Gargoyle67 Memorial Movie Thread

A Perfect Getaway 8/10 Even though it yet another re-make  I quite enjoyed it.
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0971209/

Paranormal Activity 7/10 Not bad for a budget flick, And would make a nice Halloween watch.

the first 1 hour is so, so, so boring, but the last 30 mins is pay off enough. The scene with the scissors was interesting.

I'd say it's worth watching if you like dark films. You really need to see the first hour though and it's hard work.

There are a lot of things I really love about the film, like the arrogance / grief of dafoes character and how it blinds him from what's going on & escalating around him, but you really need to believe in it or the film doesn't work.

If you don't buy in on a psychological level, then it's just a lot of artsy fartsy dicking about. I think if you liked the Blair witch project (I.e. You accepted that the characters were scared of 'something') and enjoyed it, then this is a million times better. Surreal, graphic, psycologically disturbing and beautifuly shot.

I didn't realise I enjoyed it that much until I wrote this :)

Funny games (2007 remake) is another film I didn't like at the time, actually hated, but when I talked about why I realised that I actually really enjoyed it.

I like figuring out why i hate something and any film that can get you to feel any emotion toward a character is doing something right :)

Yeah, I know what you mean. Some films I find really frustrating. Then I go on and on about all the annoyances, find myself thinking about it a lot and realise - that film has really affected me.

Pete, you should stop listening to me, man Antichrist is disturbed.. amazed at some of the scenes and it still passed an R- rating.

Good enough review for me, will watch ASAP :D

I watched most of The Deviants again, which is a great film. Was planning on watching the directors cut of Leon, but never got around to it.

Unrated version leaves little doubt that he shagged her (in my mind anyways)

there are some really good scenes and it answers some of the questiaons I had. Personal favourite is when they are in the restaraunt, how the **** would you respond to what she says to him :?

Haha. It's no big deal, but I'd have watched it myself rather than hanging round for an hour

I just watched Cannibal Holocaust for the first time:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078935/

Much better than I had expected, its raw to say the least, but that goes in its favour. It's also perfectly paced as you turn against the 'victims' halfway through (which was coming a mile off, but that's no bad thing) I had to go onto imdb after wathching though. For anyone that's seen the turtle scene:
No animal should ever be killed for a film
by TheLastIdea (Sun Feb 8 2009 09:54:15)

It doesn't matter if it is for shock value or whatever. It is cruel, unnecessary and just sick. Now i know there are a lot of immature people who will respond with 'how cool' it is to see them die, etc. But honestly, it is not. This is just absolutley pathetic and should have never happened and should never happen again.
by kmoneyhomedog (Sun Feb 15 2009 20:07:46)

technically they ate the turtle.
It was a bit too OTT for me seeing the Turtle get ripped & cut apart, limbs flailing etc but I did laugh at that comment.

I was going to watch Paranormal Actvity but apparantly the release that's floating around has a different ending. Looks like I need to visit the cinema this week

Just obtained Dead Snow & the Boondock Saints for my viewing pleasure :)

awesome flick, and even better soundtrack!!

dead snow was pretty good too...a bit cheesy, but alright.....zombie nazi's....meh

i caught up on some of my horror backlog yesterday and watched "the house of clocks"(great fulci film) and "night of the creeps"....both were great...i hadnt watched night of the creeps in at least a decade.....great fun....

oh ya....streamed "zombieland" saturday cuz i was bored....it was alright....although more of a comedy with zombies in it than a zombie flick....kinda funny in spots, but im kinda glad i didnt pay to see it.....i would have been disappointed
