What cabinet(s) did SFII The World Warrior use in Japan?
As a student of SF history I've always wondered this. When Street Fighter II The World Warrior came out in Japan in 1991 what cabinet did it most commonly use? What sort of joystick and buttons did it use?
I've seen a lot of candy cabs on this site and others, but most of them seem to be from the mid 90's onwards. What were the older generations of cabs like? I'm especially interested in the joysticks and buttons. I think it would be pretty cool to build a custom joystick with the period accurate parts.
Any more detailed info about SFII Dash through Super X would also be very appreciated.
If I ever buy a candy I would like to buy the same one that Super X was most commonly found in during it's era as a top fighting game.

Sega Aero City amogst other things.
Aero is from 1989 (I think). Seimetsu did a dedicated CP for SF2 for this machine.

Super Awesome.
I'm going to post this on SRK. They will surely appreciate it.
Are the Aero's similar across the years? I know the Astro's and Egrets have evolved over time. I usually see Aero's going for significantly less than other candies so that is great for me.
Is that your personal panel?

It was posted a while back that semitu developed the ls32 for sf2.
I'm guessing that operators in japan would have used ls32s as most cabs woul have needed new CPs as they were generally button at that time.

That's so awesome to know. So, why do most people prefer Sanwa JLF's for fighters then?markedkiller78 wrote:It was posted a while back that semitu developed the ls32 for sf2.

It's a matter of taste and what you are used to.
Double tap dash and down>up jumps are much easier on jlf's. Doubtor made a fantastic post on sticks and the pros and cons, but sadly I think it's gone now.

If by "evolve" you mean where there more Aero models, then the answer is yes - there was also an Aero table.
This pic I found in Google belongs to one "Joe Young". Does Pang still have this?! Me likey!

No, the panel is not mine it's a picture I nabbed off the net. I think that SF panel is hideous, so wouldn't own one - I'd never sully a lovely Aero with anything other than the original lovely CP goodness.

I think joe sold that one on & bought the other one with the marquee / speaker.
There were 2 kicking about at that time. I think mr megalo had 1 or even both? iirc richy13 sold this one and it went to Europe (Germany?)

I could be totally wrong & that one might always have been and still is Joes
I half remember someone getting a NOS MS8 with their aero table & the pic on that monitor does look pretty sweet.

Thats the first of the two Megster refurbs. It went to porkpye, then richy, then wherever. I have the one with the speaker thingy and new monitor.
I would've thought SFII was promoted on a Capcom cab of the era, like the Status.

Re: What cabinet(s) did SFII The World Warrior use in Japan?
First of all, interesting and excellent question. I assume Capcom did not deliver this a full package: cab + pcb, just kits, probably including kick harness. So it could have been any cab. The Aero came to my mind to being the cab most of the sfII woards were put in at the time
There's also a Super SFII panel amongst others. Are there no 1991 Japanese arcade pics anywhere?
Perhaps arcade op's drilled the Aero cp' some new ****'s

This panel is for sfIITURBO.Devil Soundwave wrote:I think that SF panel is hideous, so wouldn't own one

People thought you had an incomplete original cab Pang! I'd be ****SuperPang wrote:Thats the first of the two Megster refurbs. It went to porkpye, then richy, then wherever. I have the one with the speaker thingy and new monitor.

The Status panels are the same size as the Aero and Madonna (IIRC) so it'd make sense.

Re: What cabinet(s) did SFII The World Warrior use in Japan?
Was that particular SF2 Turbo panel really a Sega only? Wasn't this shape like the old standard panel for several cabs? Like the later Sega shape panel (Astro till Net City, Windy, Impress, Cyberlead compatibility)?

This pic was taken during my last stay in Japan in Setember.

A Capcom Status 18 with a SF2 champion edition dedicated cpo playing Sf1.
I am sure that together with the Status 25 were the SF2 cabinets, although the arcades were full of Aero's and Madonna's and became more popular..

Judging by the photo in the post above it would appear not...cools wrote:
