Re: Cleaning the underside of control panels
Industrial scouring pads like Scotchbrite are the best thing to use on that, used slightly wet. I've got a roll of it so I'll stick some in the post with the buttons for you.

link at the bottom of the first post, there may be cheaper sources than halfords though...
EDIT: in fact much cheaper on eBay

I find Cillit Bang will shift most things, even rust. Worth a try?

Re: Cleaning the underside of control panels
Didn't really clean it but i sanded off all the rust. Most of it was on the surface anyway. Primed it twice after that. Doesn't look too bad on yours, Mine was much worse as you can see. I also had slight corrosion on the front.

Probably sensible - I think rust can continue even if it *appears* dry. Goatboy's panel looks brand new!

Re: Cleaning the underside of control panels
Thanks and Yes, The material the overlay is printed on is very thick and sturdy. I had no experience at all with applying stickers but managed to stick this on without any bubbles. And you can remove it and re-apply if you like.
It's printed with a little bit of overscan (mine was) so you have to cut the edges a bit. I used a sharp knife for this you see in the pictures. A small one for the holes and the bigger one to trim the edges. Worked like a charm and looks awesome.
