Using an LS-30 in Mame -- will an I-Pac work?
It's about time I added an LS-30 for Mame to my Raijin. I'm going to assume all the lablels on the I-Pac are simply that - labels, and this is what I need to map the 12 directions (and ground) required for an LS-30 rotary stick. Amirite?

No an IPAC won't work. You need a rotary interface like GGGs [GP-Wiz40 MAX].
You can use that for your rotary inputs as well as your directional and button inputs,

Cool, thank you sir. This might inspire me to finally get off my **** and sort this thing out. Dremeling isn't my forte though.

I finally got around to getting one of these. I see that for the rotary switches to work properly, you need to put every 3rd one into the same port (assuming they fit, which they should for the stock LS-30) and then use software. After looking in MAME, there are only analogue settings for rotation it seems - no digital, which strikes me as a bit odd. Anyone have any experience with these?

How to use Roto-X w/ Mame
Okay, I got one of these, and I've run the Roto-X software... but, don't really know what the hell it's doing. Basically the software shows some lights rotating around but they don't seem to react to me moving the stick. I'm not sure how to set the rotary controls in Mame either. The manual is somewhat uninformative in that matter.

As far as i know GP your gonna have to go into the specific game input for whatever you wanna change....midnight resistance, forgotten worlds...etc and make sure your Left, Right, Up, Down inputs are set by moving your joystick into those positions...then you should notice there's a secondary input in these games marked "dial". Register the dial functions by rotating the joystick in it's "home position"....you should be good to go after that although im sure it will need some tweaking mate!!GaijinPunch wrote:Okay, I got one of these, and I've run the Roto-X software... but, don't really know what the hell it's doing. Hey dude -- thanks for the update.
I will check those. I actually only looked at Ikari, and I saw nothing for "dial". I only see standard analogue settings, like I found in the one other analogue game I played: Night Striker. Is there a chance MameFX Plus has cocked up controls? The up, down, left & right all work, btw.

Ok just checked Ikari GP...Instead of Dial it's called positional analog...the same rules still apply as i mentioned above though fella...GaijinPunch wrote:Hey dude -- thanks for the update.

Yeah, I twist around while I have that in select mode but nothing happens. I guess my leads aren't in there right. I wish there was a way to tell if they were all sorted out or not... or if I'm doing the software wrong. :/

If it's not registering it must be a prob with your inputs/wiring dude...isn't there a little piece of software from ultimarc to check all your ipac controls are registering??GaijinPunch wrote:Yeah, I twist around while I have that in select mode but nothing happens. Well, it's not an iPac, so that won't help. It's the GWiz thing. I've got the Roto-X software, but it doesn't really show you if the rotary part is registering right. All the other directions I can tell w/ Windows Control Panel. I'll reset those wires this weekend and see what I can see.joeblade wrote:GaijinPunch wrote: If it's not registering it must be a prob with your inputs/wiring dude...isn't there a little piece of software from ultimarc to check all your ipac controls are registering??

Just had a look at this device GP...im amazed the software doesn't display a register for each turn of the rotary control..GaijinPunch wrote:Well, it's not an iPac, so that won't help. Now to find the time! I'm about to head into the office to tie up some loose ends. Hopefully can get to it when I get back.
