Looking for Aero City help...
Hi guys, I'm in the process of restoring an Aero City (I'll start a separate thread sometime) and I'm looking for a few things:
1. Replacement vinyl sideart (the part that says Aero City and wraps to the control panel). Also, a replacement for the original CPO would be awesome, but I'm not holding my breath. I don't need NOS or anything; a repro would be fine.
2. A yen sticker for the coin slot (not looking for any particular style as long as the design and color is a decent fit).
3. Dimensions for the marquee holder - I figure I can cut my own out of plexi, but I'm looking for the plans to make one.
If you can help with any or all of this, please let me know!
Thanks a bunch,
Eric

Re: Looking for Aero City help...
Thanks Cello. That's a great-looking cab! Like you, I had a thread going about the early stages of my restoration on KC. Mine will end up looking pretty similar to yours - I got the 2L12B from River Service, and bought two of these from YAJ: http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/115554503" I'm in the process of painting one of them white, and the other I'll keep with the steel finish (it's flatter than the RS CP surround, with the brush marks), in case I ever feel like swapping it out. I'm using a gloss white appliance epoxy to brighten up the yellowed-looking paint, and that's why I'm looking for replacement decals.

Re: Looking for Aero City help...
You're welcome Eric, i got also the cp parts from yhj myself.
Maybe you can ask danox574 at neo-geo.com forum.
He repainted his Aero all blue, so i guess he made some new sidearts.
Here is his thread over there:

Re: Looking for Aero City help...
I sold mine to Gnarlydan of KC and I think he then sold it on.
I stripped mine completely and repainted. My spray paint skills let it down but its overall condition was pretty good. I had the artwork computer cut from a sign making company. I chose a good matching blue and the vector artwork was cut exactly to size. It looked really good. It only cost about £35 from a local sign company.
The paintwork had rippled slightly in places and the finish was of a different texture when caught at an angle in bright light. It did look loads better. The same happens with all my restoration projects. I'm crap at spray painting. Its like you have to get a fine balance between smothered and the paint running!

Re: Looking for Aero City help...
mastercello: Yeah, I actualy sent Dan a PM a long time ago but he never responded. I might get the same monitor he did when the time comes (mine had a 25" TV someone had stuck in it, no idea what he was going to do with that since it had no component or s-video in). I did a little research and found out Dan got his sideart from dubdubdub; I PM'd dub and he made me a reasonable offer, but I wanted to see if anybody else had any ideas before I ordered.
Mellor: I have that same problem with spraypaint. I always get bits of stuff in the finish that I have to sand out, or it doesn't come out even like I want it to. For this project I've actually been using foam rollers, with good results. I'll post some pics soon.
Thanks for your help, guys!

Hey,
These are the old KC artwork (vector) files. I think they were originally added by Joeblade. Anyways I have uploaded them and they can remain there!

Mellor, copy and paste that in to the Library too. May come in handy for other people.

Re: Looking for Aero City help...
Just wanted to say thanks again to Mellor; I took the files to a local signmaker and got a quote of about $40 USD for all the sideart printed on 3 mil vinyl. Nice!

Re: Looking for Aero City help...
No worries mate. And thats a good price. Remember to choose a good matching colour. As said mine was cut from a good matching blue. I took a part of the old sticker to match. This was the finished article as far as mine was concerned. Looked pretty neat apart from close inspection of paint finish. I caught it at the right angle in the first to show the more shiny parts of the paint, you could only see it when you caught the light at an angle like this. Shame really as it would have been mint! The marks you see, if any, on the vinyl artwork are the rivets on the metal underneath and not inperfections of the artwork!

I will add it to the library unless someone else wants to. Got a lot on at the moment in preperation for my latest cabs arrival tomorrow. A big twin sitdown Virtua Racer, old to you guys I'm sure but one I always wanted

Re: Looking for Aero City help...
This is probably way late but what the hell, I had a friend create a vector of the Aero's CPO and had it printed on vinyl and was pretty pleased with the result.
If anyone wants a copy of the vector file then drop me a pm.

Astro City is only a letter away from atrocity. Makes you think doesn’t it?

Something that I think looks really nice is this:

A friend of mine did this to the CP of my Aero when he was working on it. Personally, I think it really improves the look of the cab.
Also, he was lucky enough to find a mint original Sega panel.

I love the white CP surround, but to finish off ,that really needs some red and blue sticks/buttons.
