Egret 2 cabinets

Post by Marcelliott »

Hi there,

Jesus, these things seem to be super rare these days, the sega cabs seem easily obtainable....., but egret 2s or even 3s seem like unicorns 🦄

I really want another one, so beautiful, could someone please shed some light on how i would go about obtaining one,, I'd imagine that they go for a pretty penny, I dare to think with some of the prices I'm seeing.

If I'd of kept hold of all my old goodies I'd be quite rich now, I'm really gutted as I never had to sell anything because I needed the money, which Is a good job as back all those years ago they wernt worth anything anyway.
I used to buy brand new neo geo games from Shaun at neostore and looking at those eBay prices, I would of been rich if I'd held on.

I truly cannot believe the prices of things.

Japan used to be a source of cheaper items years ago, these days the Japan prices seem insane from what I can see.

When did this happen? I'm absolutely gob smacked, what's going on ?

e2 's are just snapped up tbh rather than been rara and people are just holding on to their cabs as its just hard get back in once you let go, the astros are nearly as bad ,but still have some normal prices ,patience is key more than ever , prices went nuts when the dollar got strong and covid hit but had been on steady incline for a few years prior anyway. there was a bargain e3 on vac recently but was missing the illumination panel

I've had an E2 for quite a few years now, and I still miss the Astro I had before it.

To be sure the main reason I got it (and really the only reason to own an E2) is the rotate mech, as trying to heft about a 29" CRT in any other Candy Cab to rotate it, would probably snap me in half.

With that said, I prefer playing shmups on a smaller screen, so for only 5% of its time with me, has it been in TATE.

Its tough to get any Candy these days without paying through the nose, but to be honest a decent Astro with a good monitor > everything else.

I was always under the impression that the egrets had a slightly better monitor even without the easy rotation mechanism plus.

There’s more info here.

All E2s have a Toshiba tube, but the New Astro and e2 pretty much the same

And…… there were 100x (no idea on the actual numbers) more sega cabs than anything else.

Sega had loads of arcades, taito less, but still quite a few. Actually rare in numbers, are jaleco, snk, capcom etc.

Ahhh, I honestly thought the egret2s were regarded as superior.

I'd definitely have an astro city, I watched a video of a guy in Singapore (i think) who bought a random astro city off aliexpress and when it arrived it was in the most beautiful condition, if someone had of told me it was brand new I'd of took their word for it.

I'm.not sure what egrets and astros are worth these days, I bought my egret to for £100...... those were the days.

Egret2's normal price has never been 100quid though no matter what year you've been buying.

Excuse me, please don't call me a liar, I bought the egret 2 for £100 In 2007, please don't tell me I didn't do something.

I sold the egret 2 cab and dodonpachi daifukkatsu 1.5 for £1000 in 2009. So please 🙏

You're putting words in my mouth, i didn't say you did or did not do something i just stated that was never a normal or realistic price to begin with so that has nothing to do with "those were the days" because 100quid egret2 days have never been normal.

I got an E2 as part of the final killercabs order in March 2008. I believe the price was £350 but there may have been an additional £100 payment to cover unforeseen importing costs.

I got my three E2's back in Killercabs days too!.. What a buzz it all was back then, going down to Sheffield to pick up my cabs from Mr Meg!..
Mine were 5-600 quid a piece.

Buy what" you" like can't go wrong then I've always preferred the e2 over the astro myself just personal choice even without the rotate mech, nothing wrong with an astro and nothing much between them monitor wise
Cheapest I remember any cab was maybe an aero for £150 from someone selling up  don't remember the mainstays been much cheaper than 350-400 and Madonna's cyberleads where cheapish but just can't remember were about ,my memory may be hazy here (crap internet access back then) but wasn't all the buzz around blasts at the time (04-07)as they were all relatively new
@pete Those cutes were just not as popular but strong sterling helped with price also !!

I remember I paid €1100 for my first Egret 2 in 2013.
One year later, I got another one for €1200. Shipping was around €150.
