Kaneko Super Nova System - which Supergun

Post by NewArcadeGamer »

Hi Folks.

I only play consoles that are ready to use. Call me Arcade Noob. :D
No way in the following case...

My first KSNS is on the way, and I have many questions.

There is no room for a cab, so I think the only way to play is with a Supergun. I have a KAICO OSSC 1.8, several screens to use, and a 40" TV with SCART.

I don’t need high-end features. I’ve seen Superguns for around $900 – perfect for enthusiasts, I think. But I prefer a solid, smart solution.
Looking around an ebay, 50 - 150€, someone says me, MVS Superguns are not running with SKNS in any way.
I have no idea.

- Which Supergun should I use with the KSNS (Cyvern)?
- Power supply? (Volts? Ampere? etc.)
- use my AES controller? Or Saturn, etc.
- Anything I might forget?
- Should I build a solution myself? (I’m able to solder, but it depends on the requirements. Consolizing a MVS might be possible to me, for example. Never done, but looks easy to me.)

I would appreciate your help and your tips.

you can use any generic jamma supergun. A popular one is the "HAS" from RGB (https://rgbslab.com/collections/products). As you are from Germany, you could also go with a MAK as well (https://arcadeforge.net/Supergun-MAK-St ... ::112.html), if you want to support the (now mostly inactive) local community ;)

- Power supply? (Volts? Ampere? etc.)
Depends on the supergun - the HAS uses:
Mean Well RT-65A
Mean Well RT-85A
Mean Well RT-125A

- use my AES controller? Or Saturn, etc.
your AES controller will work immediately, as most superguns have DB15 connectors. For anything else you can use adapters (like the "USB2DB15")

- Anything I might forget?
nope - if you already have a scaler, you are good to go.

- Should I build a solution myself?
no, makes no sense.

Hah!
Just bought this PSU last week for an odd (boring Homecomputer) Project where I needed the -5V! I wIll use it for the new Project. ;o)
The MAK Strike is a very good idea. Buyin in Germany: No customs and the price is very good. The Nova is my first, but not my last jamma. I'm sure. ;)
It looks like the RT-65A fits here, too. (?) *

What does the CPS2 wiring? Do i need this? EDIT: No. Capcom Play System ;O)

Thanks!

Mean Well RT-65A:
+5V / 5A → Versorgt das Arcade-Board
+12V / 2,8A → Für Audio-Verstärkung (falls nötig)
-5V / 0,5A → Für ältere Boards (z. B. einige Midway- oder Capcom-Spiele) (Nova, i think, too)

(By the way: Some People says, 10A needs MVS? Hm. No. My machine gets 5A. All fine.)

All parts arrived, testing with a flat, a very beautiful arcadegame! :D

Thinking about mounting a plate above the board.
