Arcade/Retrogaming VHS tapes - Laserdiscs - DVD

Hi everyone,

For years i've been collecting VHS tapes related to arcade games and home videogames. I have few Laserdiscs too.

I spend my free time preserving footage, digitizing the tapes and laserdiscs the best way i Can :

- Time base correction,
- Comb filtering,
- Deinterlace,
- Capture at 1440p (most of the Time to keep 4/3 aspect ratio) or 1080p,
- Noise reduction if necessary,
- 60 FPS capture.

I'm using the following gear (with various combinations, depending on the tape and footage quality) :

- LG NTSC VCR
- Victor VX200 Super VHS VCR
- Pioneer DVL 9 LD/DVD player
- Pixel Magic Crystalio 2 Professionnal Video Processor
- Micomsoft Xcapture 1
- Personnal Computer with OBS Studio

I am not using the domesday duplicator for now, maybe one day if i underdstand well enough how to run it.

I will update Time to Time as i'm still digitizing the stuff.

One more thing : Sometimes youtube recognizes japanese language in the videos and provides closed caption subtitles. It becomes then possible to ask an automatic translation from japanese to english language. Not perfect, but really interesting and useful to fully enjoy the material.

I have genuinely thought about buying the Guwange super play VHS that’s been on eBay forever.
I’ve not bothered for the simple reason that I don’t have a VHS and would probably have to send it to be digitised or massively go down a rabbit hole and do it myself…

I pulled some of my old VHS tapes out a few years ago from storage boxes in the attic and they had mold growing in them I don't miss tape formats one bit especially when the machine would eat one. Preserving them seems like the best play, funny how Youtube nobodies basically copied their entire routine from tape let's plays.
