I got an Egret 2 few days ago which is in pretty good condition, but i wanna do a complete restoration anyway. So the target is to have an Egret 2 which looks 99% factory fresh.
Sorry for my english

Restoration video
This means:
- powdercoating the whole metal body, coinbox, doors,...
- maybe paint the plastic parts, i think buffing won't do the trick here to have it absolute flawless
- sanding all wooden parts
- cleaning the harnesses in a ultrasonic bath and renew all the cable ties
- joystick and buttons all new
- polish the marquee, screen and joystick panel
- tumble all screws and small metal parts
- chromium coating all bigger metal parts, maybe nickel coating
- renew all stickes (big cabinet stickers and all the smaller ones)
So i think that's it for the moment. Shouldn't be such a work comparing with a pinball restoration. The powdercoating and plastic painting will do professionals anyway
So here is how it looks like now:
thousands of paint chips

doesn't look too bad, also from the inside
So let's start with something i could do without taking the whole machine apart

polishing the marquee
it looked like this at the beginning. F*cking scratched and dirty
So here are a few things i also use for car buffing. Flex Rotary Buffer with a Lake country wool pad, 3 M polish, claylube, claybar and stuff for sanding
After cleaning the marquee with a normal all purpose cleaner i used a clay bar to remove also the tiniest dirt from the plastic.
Here the front panel after cleaning befor polishing
scratches everywhere
Here's the backpanel with a big scratch. Really big scratches which you can feel with your fingernail won't buff out completely unless you sand with 2000 grit sandpaper for maybe a month

nasty stuff on the backpanel
Started to sand with 2000 grit sandpaper the big scratches, then with 3000 sandpaper in 90° other direction. Don't worry it will buff out

no way to get rid of such big marks. They are just too deep
here is a 50/50 after the first hit with the woolpad. The scratched corner was covered with tape so a difference can be seen
After the woolpad i took a medium polish compound on my excenter buffing machine.
Always use a very soft micro fibre towel to remove polishing residue. Otherwise the plastic get scrached imediately again.
And here the endresult
backpanel
as i said, big scratches won't buff out. Here you see the big one
but it looks pretty flawless comparing to the beginning
frontpanel
also here the big mark could be just reduced
yes it's a panel there

polish the screen
next thing. Cleaning the screen. Just cleaned with normal window cleaner, then again with the claylube and claybar.
this dirt still came of the monitor AFTER cleaning with a windowcleaner
next step, polish with Z-12 Clear-View Glass Polish. Don't expect miracles from that. It doesn't polish scratches out, just makes the screen still cleaner. You can't polish glass so easily.
just a few drops are enough for the whole screen
So i hope it wasn't too boring. Will begin the "real" restoration in a few days, weeks,...
