Re: Old WG Monitor Fizzles Then Resizes Screen
sounds like the flyback but it could also be a fault in the deflection circuit, first id this chassis correctly

Re: Old WG Monitor Fizzles Then Resizes Screen
very rare for an isolation transformer to go faulty
easy way to prove it though-just meter the output voltage and if you get a steady 110-120vac then its fine
the fault is most likely flyback transformer or even hot,you need to check for bad solder joints first around the chassis
yeah it is a wg k7000 series chassis and its around 18 years old

Re: Old WG Monitor Fizzles Then Resizes Screen
hmmm yeah i see what you mean,i do remember that strange old flyback
your best bet is to post on byoac as i am sure they know the score with this,to me there is no way that new flyback is compatible
edit-craig(ordyne) will know this

Re: Old WG Monitor Fizzles Then Resizes Screen
yes i remember seeing something about that a long time ago, maybe you can pick one up on ebay or go for a replacement chassis from alva amusements as i think the price for a new chassis is pretty cheap
you would need to read the yoke resistance, supply size of tube, amount of pin on crt neck

Re: Old WG Monitor Fizzles Then Resizes Screen
yes i think so,read the yoke resistance
red and blue are the horizontal pair
yellow and green are the vertical pair
this is the best way to match a chassis(even better if you read the inductance but you need a lcr meter for that)

Re: Old WG Monitor Fizzles Then Resizes Screen
Just wanted to add in that I fixed a 100% dead WG K7000 chassis this past weekend simply by reflowing the solder. The monitor wouldn't even power up prior to me working on. I'd start there if you haven't already.

post a photo of both your old tube neck card crt socket and the new one

Re: Old WG Monitor Fizzles Then Resizes Screen
there are 2 yoke connections on the chassis-use the other one

Re: Old WG Monitor Fizzles Then Resizes Screen
ok then the other option is to use the original yoke connection but you need to reverse the wiring
where it was red/blue/green/yellow now you need blue/red/yellow/green
if you have to cut the plug in half then do so
NEVER EVER GET THE PAIRS WRONG---never put the blue and read onto the yellow and green connection, although you will see that the red/blue pair is more spaced than the other pair on the plug itself

Re: Old WG Monitor Fizzles Then Resizes Screen **Resolved!**
Just checked my monitor and it's a Wells Gardner as well (19K7698) and appears to have two wires going to the anode, so I guess that means I have the cack-handed Zenith model as well...
Doh!
Thankfully still working nicely at the mo.
Not sure I could replace a chassis though, so if it ever dies, I guess Craig will be making some cash...

if you attend one of the monitor talks at Insert Coin 09 you will learn all you need to replace a monitor chassisNot sure I could replace a chassis though, so if it ever dies, I guess Craig will be making some cash...
