New Astro monitor failure?

Post by BDT »

Today I switched on my New Astro City after 2 months of no power up.

I fixed my NAOMI setup and tested it on my Supergun and TV. Everything fine.

Then I switched the Supergun off and connected the jamma connector to the New Astro. I only have a screen with some vague stripes, little green when I look closely. Degauss did't help. The NAOMI screens never appear(on the supergun everything great).

Monitor is switched to 15khz and NAOMI too. Is my monitor broken?

PS. the NAOMI setup worked 2 months ago(I only have a separate PSU now, but with Capcom i/o only, I have the same problem)

Where can I check the video input plug? I have no sounds, but just found out on my CAPCOM I/O with the supergun no sound is coming from NAOMI. With a Sega I/O I got perfect picture with supergun, with New Astro none. I have no separate audio amp for NAOMI.

Also, I have no other PCB to test on my Astro...

when you last had this cab running what board was in there?
imo there is no fault on the cab,its something to do with the capcom i/o drawing too much power to run correctly
when you have the capcom i/o connected with the naomi whats thr reading of +5,+12 and 3.3 at the actual naomi mobo input plugs

I have the problem with Capcom I/O and Sega I/O. Both working fine on supergun, not on the cab.

Last time I used the cab I was running NAOMI(the only board I have). I use separate PSU to power NAOMI now.

right i see,yes way to go with the extra psu
so all the i/o work with the supergun and the naomi also
the astro psu is running fine and meters good at the jamma with the i/o connected
the monitor is running but shows no video-just some flyback lines and a slight green hue
this only leaves a couple of things, either the video input plug to the monitor is disconnect, the contrast pot is broken, the neck card is loose, dry solder joints or the monitor has a blanking problem

normally if you get any sort of screen then the monitor is o.k but there are exceptions to this

you will need to trace the jamma loom to the monitor first to make sure its connected and you read continuity to the jamma

In my opinion, the video input plug could not be disconnected, I didn't touch the cab for 2 months...

All the other options you name are completely new to me, and I don't know where too look sadly :(

What is a neck card? Solder joints? Blanking Problem?

so you just switched this off 2 months ago,did not move it whatsoever and now its not working?
the fault you describe is no video, this normally caused by signal not being present and can be caused by the problems i noted in my last post
if you did not touch this cab at all then the only thing i can think of apart from the power supply is the 10uf 250v electrolitic capacitor on the neck card of the monitor is completely knackered
any chance of posting a photo of the setup plugged into the cab

I can post a photo of the setup this weekend. Right now, I packed all the NAOMI stuff, because the dog walks around the cab ;-) Better not leave all the stuff on the floor.

I did not move the cab at all last months, your comment about the neck card completely knackered worries me.

I'm I looking at a lot of trouble/costs to fix this?
