Because when you get bored of blasting everything in sight, adding a racing element makes total sense
Regulations:
1. Head for the goal despite the means
2. Eliminate any intruder!

So close and yet so far.
Obliterated my old high score. I've discovered the secret to this game; win the first four stages then you can go as slow as you want the last two.
Of course, I still manage to get 3rd usually in the fifth stage using that method
