Egret 3/AWSD True Flat Monitor rotation mechanism.

Post by monouchi »

One of my projects is to make a monitor rotation mechanism for my E3 and AWSD.
They will be fitted with Tosh PF screens and I dont want to have a exposed tube neck every time I want to rotate them.

I managed to create some rot-mech arms that fit a true Flat 29" CRT tube.
The arms was made for a LG/Phillips tube but also fits other tubes as the Matshushita/Toshiba.
No problem for cables to go through or to fit the anode cap.

I bet there'd be a reasonable market for kits to convert AWSD / E3 to easy-tates if you make a few.

I bet your bet is good. It will also make life easier for people wanting to switch out their burned-in Toshiba tube for something burn-free yet curved that won't fit the original rotate-mech. Not all MS9-monitors fit for example.

Quite a few more parts than just the arms to make then.

Yes for sure, SMB did 9 arms before we hit the target.
Also Peap (Starke), your 3D drawings helped a lot with nailing down the measurements.

Next week im gonna start to see what needs to be changed for a AWSD rot-mech.
Note that the AWSD metal body is more different to an E2 than one could think.

Posting an update here.
The AWSD rotation mech is now a go.
The last step is to find some wheels and someone who can do the back- and circular plate.
(In the pic they are borrowed from an E2 rot-mech.)

But all in all it works fine and is as sturdy as in a E2, even sturdier cos of the eight M8 bolts that holds the wooden board.
The monitor arms are identical to the ones Swedishmeatball made for the E2 True Flat rotate mech.

The other arms are the ones that sit originally in the AWSD. (Notice here how the wooden board sits on top of the arms compared to a E2 where the arms are on top.)

Hood closes easily and bezel sits perfectly.

Now, I just need to find some good wheels...

I'd ask FrancoB about these as well, but he's on vacation in Egypt IIRC. Awesome work, bud.

Taking over the military (which basically runs the country now - did you know that the military also owns businesses all over Egypt? Basically the generals are like businessmen with a lot of guns who can tell everyone what to do)?

This looks great !
I had something similar in the pipeline when I put my PFX in an AWSD but the price for all pieces of the mech was very high.
Do you think it would be possible to make this at reasonable cost ?

Well I dont know if you want to make many and sell, that would be a lot of work.
especially as a AWSD rotation mech is different from a E2 rot mech.

Though making one for myself wont be expensive, right now Im at the sum of $100 and only need a few more parts to finish it.

All parts are hand crafted or laser machined ?
Making the tray for the PFX chassis was already €60 (single piece laser cut from stainless steel sheet and multiple bends) over here. When I wanted to get the wood base plate made using a CNC lath they quoted me €250 ! I was utterly disgusted and that was the end of my endeavour ...
Perhaps I should try again to find some cheaper solutions.
