Convert 31khz to 15khz?
Ive just bought my gf a new pc to replace her old dell one and am looking into whether i would be able to put the old one into a cab as a mame machine. unfortunately it is one of those Dell ones that is in a tiny case and therefor i cant fit an arcadevga etc, and the onboard graphics arent supported by soft 15khz. Is there an external way of changing the signal, or would i be limited to getting a tri-rez monitor?
i dont want to spend much as the whole point of trying to use this machine is that i have it here and its free!

Re: Convert 31khz to 15khz?
yes the downscanner / PC presentation thingie Paul , not the upscanner (XRGB)
the scan convertor of yours outputs RGB via a scart kead

Re: Convert 31khz to 15khz?
Had you thought of a PCI/AGP riser? Or simply an open frame? Then you'd just need an Nvidia or ATI card and Soft15khz.
Got to be cheaper than a scan converter.

The PC is a Dell Optiplex sx260, which is a real small-form-factor jobbie and has no agp or pci slots inside unfortunately - i havent actually got a cab to put it in at the moment anyway, so theres no rush, i was looking at getting an Astro next but might hang on for something that has got a tri-res monitor...Xenepp wrote:Had you thought of a PCI/AGP riser? Why not look for a low profile graphics card, or like has been suggested above, ditch the PC case?

Re: Convert 31khz to 15khz?
Reckon i am probably **** in the wind with this machine - for the cost of a converter i could get a faster mobo and processor and not have any problems with soft15khz.
As it is so small and comes with a 15" tft i might just make a tiny desktop mame machine

Really? Not one? Is there nothing you could take out of the other slots to make room or are there actually none on the board? How peculiar!chubsta wrote:No agp or pci slots to put one in unfortunatelyFlazh wrote:Why not look for a low profile graphics card, or like has been suggested above, ditch the PC case?

Re: Convert 31khz to 15khz?
Nope, none on the board at all - just a spare memory slot and thats it!Flazh wrote:Really? Not one? Never seen a mother board like that except in the sub-miniature (itx-nano etc) systems.
Sounds like you might be better off building up a new system. At least you can design it to run exactly how and what you want then.

Re: Convert 31khz to 15khz?
I've found that video converter and it does VGA, SVGA & XVGA to s-video, composite video & RGB Scart in PAL, SECAM or NTSC and can output the signal to 5 screens at once.
Its a grandtec "Grand Multiview" and its unopened (even the batteries for the remote control/mouse/pointer thingie).

If it's a Dell, forget any Ultimarc product!!!!
NONE of them will work!!!!
I suspect that whatever little hair Andy Warne had left has long since been claimed by Dell.
