That's good, because they sell about as often as Trump tweets something sensible.zumbito wrote:Wow! Not interested any moreRossyra wrote:£3,000+ assuming you can find someone willing to sell one in the first place ...zumbito wrote:Around how much are these going for these days?

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
That's a good question. I for myself would have used my 25" Sony Trinitrons. They have very nice picture. But for a bigger project with a lot of cabs, a supply of new 25" arcade crt's would be needed. Wei-ya only has 29" or 21" at their "shop". Is there any other company selling new crt's today?trev1976 wrote:What screens would be used ?

I think selling just the body with mounting points for CRT and maybe LCD (whatever floats your boat) would be a good idea ,then people could source there own screens.Shadolf wrote:That's a good question. I like the idea of using Sony Trinitrons as they are lovely TV's and still available 2nd hand for pence also im sure over time people would share compatible model numbers for ease.

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
That can be done, but there are several issues. Not everyone is capable to fit a lcd or crt into a cab. When using crt's from TV's one needs to build a frame first. Also there is the thing with the bezel. Different bezel for lcd 4:3, 16:9, and crt flat or curved.trev1976 wrote:I think selling just the body with mounting points for CRT and maybe LCD (whatever floats your boat) would be a good idea ,then people could source there own screens.Shadolf wrote:That's a good question. Maybe I should start a new thread about an Arcade Otaku cab. Asking for demand, design and wanted features etc.?!

I think this would be a good idea. I'd be interested in getting a clone and doing all the internals as would quite a few others I'd imagine.Shadolf wrote: Maybe I should start a new thread about an Arcade Otaku cab. Asking for demand, design and wanted features etc.?!

Yeah, if a Pony III clone was done and it walked and talked like a Pony I would seriously consider it.

Or Clony.

Beovision 1s have a nice compact 25" Philips tube and are very easy to find for next to nothing. I've always thought it might make for a decent replacement. The long and narrow chassis might need a little thought but the main annoyance would be if you want to regularly adjust the screen width with the geometry menu. B&O's interpretation of "Simple and Intuitive" is unlike anyone else's on the planet.
It'd be fine for a Mame set up though.
I'd definitely be interested in a repro PM3 shell but I'm not on the same page regarding the cost saving. £3k is around the cost for a complete original PM3. That's what I recently sold mine for - decent condition, no burn, a few CPs.
The metal body alone though?.. A fair few PM3s have sold recently on YHA. ~$3000 for a really good one, but only ~$1000 when they have a duff screen and/or need a lot of work. I know YHA prices paint half the picture of the rest of the world as an importer wouldn't want to waste shipping costs on a risk but it still shows a huge difference in value.
I can't imagine a well reproduced metal shell being cost viable but I'd love to be proven mong.

I personally think mame set ups and CRT TV's in these shells would be the way to go.

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
This cab looks really interesting.
Out of curiosity. How well does this screen angle work for playing games, especially for shumps... is the angle about 60 degrees or so?
Most cabs have about 15-20 degrees I think.
And whats the average screen viewing distance for the pony ?
I'm planning to build myself a cab the next few months, that's why I'm asking.
Thanks

Personally I love the screen angle for all vertical games, and certain horizontal games... single screen platformers and puzzle games.
For fighters, not so good, or any horizontal games with lots of motion. Not sure why, just doesnt seem to suit the angle imo.

Thanks for your answers
Let's see if its going to be a pony style cab...since there are so much vertical shmups that are waiting to be played..it could be very possible.

Playing around with a wide angle and slower shutter speed.

Re: Jaleco Pony Mark III 25
I recently reattached my pony lightbox after getting it out of storage and as it turns out, one of the screws is missing
Any if you nice gents know the spec of these screws so I can order a few more online?
