Re: Petrol-Headz Motor Thread
Problem is that german cars are way too serious, this is not, this is just silly brutal fun. A German made musclecar, love it.
I asked for a GT, they gave me a GTC, now I know why they did that.

Re: Petrol-Headz Motor Thread
so, getting a dealership of german cars, in germany, to make you an offer for a us imported car as trade in, might be one of the hardest things you can do.

Re: Petrol-Headz Motor Thread
I'm about $15,000 into having a Porsche Boxter 6-speed transmission fitted to my Lotus.
The Esprit originally comes with a Renault UN1 transmission. Its a 5-speed that was originally designed for bread delivery trucks (seriously). The Esprit V8 actually had to be de-tuned to not shatter the damn thing into a million pieces any time you stomp the accelerator. In 2 years of owning the car, I've trashed the transmission twice now. You can't buy a new UN1 for love or money, so with my brother and a friend that does engineering in his past time we decided that the Porsche Boxter 6-speed is strong enough, plentiful enough, and cheap enough to work with. The only negative point is that the Boxter tranny is 40kg heavier than the Renault
It's taken almost a year now, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. If everything works out, we will be manufacturing and distributing kits (provide your own Boxter transmission) for any model Esprit from 1977 to 2004.
Anyhow, thats what I've been up to in the two years since I posted in this thread.

Got to ride shotgun in this earlier:
The guy sold his R33 & got this as a replacement, for a FWD it was great felt like a real sports car.

Love a type r me, beautiful bit of kit. I've been eyeballing an fn2 for some time, I know they're a bit marmite, but they're so cheap these days it's kind of ridiculous. Comfortably cheaper than an ep3 now.

Re: Petrol-Headz Motor Thread
Your Lotus is in really sweet condition!
I picked this up. 2018 Jaguar XJR 575. These got pulled from sale after a small number were sold due to EU rules, and the rest were used as company cars and drip fed into the used market, somewhere under 100 in total is the estimate and only a couple have been seen in this colour, it varies between sea blue-green and near emerald depending on the light - not a colour change paint just an incredibly high metallic content. Sadly under dispute with the dealer as the bodywork has lots of "marks" it shouldn't have... Hopefully we sort something out.

Re: Petrol-Headz Motor Thread
Nice colour, why was it pulled from sale, for emissions?

<trk>:I remember catching a big fat one and my friend said "throw it back in, that one already tastes like wood"

That happened. This ties in with EU average fleet targets for co2, so you may have the cleanest V8 on earth but it doesn't matter if you aren't selling enough low emission cars to reach EU fleet average targets. End result:
https://www.motor1.com/news/268622/jagu ... om-europe/
Since this happened rather suddenly and they couldn't sell any more of them, the ones still on the production line were given out as company cars and then filtered out as used ones because the rules apply to sales of new cars. It's ridiculous when you think about it because the model was Euro6 compliant and meets UK ULEZ regulations for 'ultra low emittion zone' entry. I got 37mpg out of my old one on motorway runs.

Re: Petrol-Headz Motor Thread
Pity few cars seem to have been lost to us in Eu(UK included) over this and I don't see it getting any better. Soon enough we won't be able to mention the dirty" petrol /diesel" words still not convinced EVs are the future either

Re: Petrol-Headz Motor Thread
They're not. I don't know if they ever will be, mass conversion to electric cars will kill the grid. Since the rollout of smart meters power companies will be able to drop your currrent (and may have to), so you could end up with cars not charging overnight anymore. Then there's the raw materials question, making disposable electric cars (the batteries are a life limiting issue) is massively un-environmental. And Bojo thinks we can power it all from windmills, which also have questionable impact/benefit. It's a big problem.geotrig wrote: December 23rd, 2020, 1:31 pm Pity few cars seem to have been lost to us in Eu(UK included) over this and I don't see it getting any better.
