Re: Petrol-Headz Motor Thread
Nasty.... and again something I can relate to. Overtaking an old git in a Passat and he then decided to pull out when I was level with his rear door..... forced me onto the grass verge at 60+mph. Next thing I knew, I was on my back on the grass verge, bike was screaming it's nuts off on the road. I can't believe I never even broke a bone..... it was unreal. My pillion was not so lucky, although she got away (lightly) with a broken finger. God was surely on our side that day.markedkiller78 wrote:I certainly don't. I got the fear when my sister -in-laws then boyfriend had to move from the inside lane to the grass verge @ 60mph when an >7.5T lorry failed to see him & moved into his lane. He was in a right mess afterwards.fagin wrote:I wonder how many of us petrol headz have the dual license

Whilst I know some people who can "drive" without actually owning an appropriate licence, I would personally look at passing your test, prior to looking at a high spec "anything"...... and don't even think about the "ring" as a goal. I've been there on a number of occasions and it craps the life out of me and I've had a varied driving history, both road and competition.Ultron wrote:I have neither, I've been waiting until I can afford something I actually want before getting one. Otherwise I'd just be out of practice by the time I could afford what I like.
Still not decided whether what I want is a high spec Scirocco, see.
(I've not needed one before and still don't. If I did it would be a different story.) It's for fun. I'm looking at the Nurburgring, for example.

Odd logic but each unto their own. If I was holding out for my ideal car prior to passing my test I still wouldn't have a licence.Ultron wrote:I have neither, I've been waiting until I can afford something I actually want before getting one. I'd recommend passing your test then buying a cheap but roadworthy car that you don't necessarily like and getting some practice in before you do yourself a mischief in a high spec motor. You may well be an exception to the rule but I've found that folks having just passed their test tend to think they're invincible, take risks and make errors that more experienced drivers may not have, or would be more capable of dealing with if they had.
I've been driving for around 16 years now and still give myself a fright sometimes although my car's pretty far from being high performance.

They should get some modified boy racer cars on there. Quite a few would put those Hypercars to shame around that track!
That Fezza this week though looked the nuts!

You mean the Ferrari F12? That was pretty good. Why didn't they do a lap in that?fagin wrote:They should get some modified boy racer cars on there. Quite a few would put those Hypercars to shame around that track!

I don't think you'd get a "boy racer" car that would beat a Pagani; that's precision engineering!

Re: Petrol-Headz Motor Thread
How have I never noticed this thread before! Some of you guys have some sweet rides. Anyway, mine's a humble family wagon, not some 490 BHP monster
. It's also really dirty, not having a driveway or garage and living in a flat on a busy, narrow street makes it hard to devote hours to polishing etc...
Anyway, here are a few pictures of my Accord. It's the Exec from the 7th gen Accord which means it rammed with every toy you could want from a wicked sound system, leather heated seats, xenon lights, a boot that opens and shuts by itself, integrated sat nav... I could go on. It's also got a 2.4i-VTEC engine which is stock putting out about 189-190BHP. With a manual transmission like mine, it's a lovely cruiser, and nice to spank from time to time also. Handles well for its size too. Handles even better when lowered though
.

I've done some little mods like Wind Deflectors, Yellow Fog Lamp tints, Type-R Gear Knob, nicer looking alloys (Inovits with Honda Centre Caps - look smart and still look relatively OEM - cheap enough that when I kerb them - which I will - it won't be the end of the world). Of course, all these mods make it go faster...
DIY Cold Air Intake with a K&N filter sitting behind the bumper for that extra noise and imaginary horse power
Apex Lowering Springs - Lowering your car is the best bang for buck mod you can do in my opinion (especially when it has a big caboose like mine!)
Custom Exhaust, 2.5" Stainless Steel from Cat back. Has probably unlocked a few horses, but I don't really care about that. It's replaced the rusting OEM one and the custom was cheaper than a new OEM one. It looks better, has improved the breathing of the engine and helped a little with a flat spot between 2-3K that's always niggled me. And let's not forget, it sounds awesome too!!! Not too loud, but just deep, with a quality about it. Not cheap sounding like a Clio with a decat and a new back box, you know
.
Future plans include shocks (as my lowering springs have knackered my OEM shocks
), window tints... and I think that's it really. When the clutch goes, I'll drop something sporty in there and one day I'll look into remapping it too. But very few places deal with the 2003-2005 K24 from the Accords as they have something uncommon about the ECU. I forget what now, I did a load of research a while back. Oh, and maybe some reconditioned 6th gen Type R Twin Pot Callipers on the front. They're a straight swap for what's on there and some guys on the Accord forum have done it, said it's a massive improvement.

I wouldn't be so sure about your last comment..... although when I said "boy racer" car, I was referring to an aftermarket tuned saloon production car. My previous SPEC C Subaru Impreza literally left a V10 R8 for dust around Snetterton race circuit. I appreciate that a Pagani is in a different league to a V10 R8, but so was my previous Impreza compared to some of the aftermarket tuned saloon production cars. I know of several "boy racer" cars that hold lap records around several of the UK race tracks. Of course a "boy racer" car will always be a "boy racer" car and in no way shape or form a super or hyper car..... although it's interesting to see what you can do with the fraction of the cost..... even if it might blow up after one lap! roflol
The feeling you get when you blow away exotica on the road is quite satisfying...... I've had a few exotica owners give me the "look" (just like Fast & Furious lol), for them to be blown away. But then the previous Impreza was over 600bhp/600ftlb and weighed in at around 1300kgs...... it was probably not surprising.

Just to show the guy I was talking about previously who has a Subaru that does low 8's down the 1/4 in a 100% road legal car:

Re: Petrol-Headz Motor Thread
I love the 6 series. I was really tempted by the M6, but the price of a replacement gearbox / clutch is a joke.
What model is that mission65 and how do you find it? The 3.0T bmw engines are fantastic just now. High 40s if you drive sensibly, but 300bhp if you want it.
