Ah, I forgot that was coming up..
Starts from £1760 on the HE site. http://store.apple.com/uk_edu_5000626/b ... mac-retina"
Glad to be wrong here. It's pricy, but it's a new product line rather that the £1000 add-on I was worried it'd be. It's more like a £100 part upgrade as it costs about the same as the bog-standard imac when similarly configured (at Applol upgrade prices anyway - and year old ones at that).pubjoe wrote:Back when the 27" imac came out in 2009 the included 2560x1440 screen made the whole package quite a bargain. I wonder if the 5k will be priced so competitively. I'm expecting not this time, I think it'll be a mega-premium option at purchase.

Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
"The worlds highest resolution display" is an awfully tempting feature. They're a fabulous computer even without that. Mine's never skipped a beat.

I've been disabling about 500 bloatware apps on my walkman to improve battery life and remove guff I'll never use. It now gives me an error message when I turn it on and I have no idea which app has done it. Is it too much to just want the music player app on my walkman?kernow wrote:Androids even worse on a tablet than a phone if that's even possible. It's like I wrote it in my bedroom.

Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
Was in the apple store spending more money.......
The monitor on that 5k iMac is a stunner pin sharp. I would love a screen that nice for my PC.
IPad air 2, more of the same, noticably thinner, gold looks naff IMO, far too much of it. Considering the new rrp of the air, is it worth it? The air is pretty cheap now and apple refurb is silly cheap.
In other news, I'm struggling to live with iOS, it's so awful
I don't know how long I can keep this iPhone
I see people moaning about apple hardware specs being crap, overpriced and outdated and the software being brilliant. I am in such a minority, I love the hardware but hate the OS.

Hardware's consistently decent imo. All round. PC boffs tend to jump on a few megahertz and ignore quality of the overall package.
Mac OS I can't live without.
iOS... I can't type for **** on this new update. Notice how all the iPhone users here have been using words like 'probaly' since the 8.0 update. The autocorrect's gone mental.

Interesting you say that. I'm going to get Lu an Air for Christmas and was planning to get the gold. I thought a tablet might get away with it more than a phone as it's not getting waved around. Only seen it on photos mind you.markedkiller78 wrote:air 2, more of the same, noticably thinner, gold looks naff IMO, far too much of it. Considering the new rrp of the air, is it worth it? Thank God for being Swedish and having auto correct turned off since I mainly write in English on places like this.pubjoe wrote:iOS... I can't type for **** on this new update. Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
I finally updated my '5 to 8, it promptly crashed my phone and I had to do a total reinstall, then I got the 'Please enter your password to update from your backup' ... then spent a frantic 15 mins trying to remember it.
But yes, 8 take a little getting used to - have had fun with the audio message functionality in iMessage though.
Completely gutted by the Mac mini 'update', which was in fact a downdate, as the new models are worse than the last gen.
I really should have gotten a quad core before the update as the prices for the old stuff has gone up.
Looks like I will be staying with my 2009 mini till it dies ... It's not too bad, but converting Blu Ray files takes 26 hours - it would be probably less than 6 with the Quad, with the new model it would be 12.
The new entry model looks tempting with its low rice tag (£100 < than last year), but features the horror of 4GB of soldered RAM and a non-SATA HDD. Apple rips you off for RAM, so having a sensible 8GB upgrade on the base model bring you up to the previous model's price point ... which was a better machine.
I may have picked up the base model if the RAM wasn't soldered.
Moan over.

Yes. How are people even noticing all these huge differences?

Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
I wouldn't. It's really just the keyboard is loony and I have to type slower. My 4 was slow but at least with it and ios ≤7 I could tap away and it would later catch up with roughly what I wanted. Now with ios 8 if I type fast it drops letters and I get random gobbledygook.
Hopefully 8.1 will fix it. Otherwise I might have to go Emph and type bare back.
But otherwise, yeah there's not much on the surface other than a new health app that I had to bung in a folder with the other **** you can't delete without dicking about. I read someone talking about lots of under the hood stuff such as app integration and communication that's apparently useful if you use ios as a work PC replacement.

Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
First Apple purchase for a while today: An iPad Air 2 64gig.
Only had a quick play on the train, but it feels lovely so far.
iPad Mini 2's have been reduced in price to something like £240. Bit of a bargain given their tech specs.

Have you cranked your speaker up yet and felt the vibrating behind!!

In all fairness, apple's auto correct has been **** for ages!!iOS... I can't type for **** on this new update

If i miss one thing from android it's swiftkey!!

Swiftkey is available for ios but the reviews haven't been very good!

For gods sake, its a carton box - not the holy grail!

Re: The great macdebate (now with roids)
Hey jo.
The speaker was awesome but tbh the price difference for the mini 2 was too much to resist.
I took the Air 2 back and got a Mini 2 with 32gb and have put the difference towards an iPhone 6.
The mini 2 is more than adequate for me, but I am missing the huge sound on the Air 2.
Another Air 2 win was the anti-reflective screen. Shame the Mini 3 wasn't a smaller Air 2 as I would have got that.
As it stands, it doesn't make any sense to buy a Mini 3. It is a Mini 2 with Touch Id and a higher price tag :S

The autocorrect was always annoying (three times I had it correct "I" to "Zimbabwe"!!joeblade wrote:In all fairness, apple's auto correct has been **** for ages!!iOS... I can't type for **** on this new update

Now the results seem to have changed. Also there is no option to say no to a suggestion. I have to part delete the word and keep retyping until it lets it pass.

I've had the mini 2 since release, a proper bargain right now IMO.
