It shouldn't be hard to wire up at all. Connect the jumper wires to the middle set of 4 pins, and each of the headers to the outer sets of pins. I think its only worth going to the trouble if you regularly switch between 15/24k boards though. Definitely try manually switching first before modding your cab.
EDIT: Sorry, brainfart.

Well, almost all my boards (or all the ones I plan to keep anyway) are 15k, but I'm more thinking for PC inacab purposes. 'Soft15khz' has 24k support too, but I've never bothered trying it because I could never see myself making the effort to regularly switch it.

Your right though. It's worth trying out 24k in the cab first. I'll need to check that 512x384 (or whatever) is supported by enough stuff for it to be worthwhile. I'm only really thinking high res hardware emulation and maybe SFIV pc.

I really like the idea of actually putting 24k mode to use, displaying high res games almost properly, without going for a trisync screen. Full lowres glory and a so-so highres picture on a dual sync - I like the sound of that much more than the full highres and so-so lowres on the trisyncs.

I take it 512x384p and 1024x768i is where 24k tops out?

It is easy indeed, but where can you get the extra two connectors needed for the headers? I am planning to make this switch connection for some weeks now, but I can't find the right connectors.

As emphatic mentioned above these things are needed:
2 x connector that fit into the sockets on the chassis (female) - same as chassis
1 x connector that fit into the cable connector on the chassis (male) - same as chassis
Necessary to fit the chassis, we must source the above.

This pic is from an standard NAC chassis

Where o where can they be found? :?:

No actual modding of the cabinet is needed as it'll just be an extra cable inserted into the chassis that you can remove whenever. :awe:

I don't think there is a whole lot of 24K stuff about. Sega Models 1, 2 and 3 are the main 24K boards. I think their native res is 496x384.

If you can find the correct connectors as ckong mentioned, then there is of course no need to modify the chassis, which would be a very neat solution indeed! My point was though that pubjoe should try it out with a manual swap before wiring in a switch. :) Of course there is the point of safely mounting the switch, but this could easily be done without modding a cab with a little thought. Hopefully someone will give it a go soon and let us know how it works out!

Quickly browsing ebay, I see most 4PDT toggle switches are on/off/on. An on/on would be more suitable for this use (although on/off/on would work).

Very nice pics. Never knew what 24K could do, never bothered about it actually. But at seems my NAC has more potential than I thought. Hooking up hires consoles to a NAC and then having a hires picture is great. :o

No my pics, but they do look impressive. This is of course using the UVC. Some more comparison shots between 15kHz also here: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 5&start=60 :awe:

Edit: Looking at the pic of the chassis, the connector's kinda looking like an ATX HDD power one. ckong, in my EGRET II this is really hard to get to, how's the reach area in the NAC? Would it be possible to get a close up picture or perhaps you could try plugging an ATX connector into the 24khz slot? If ATX works, I'm gonna make myself a cable ASAP.

Unfortunately I don't have a loose ATX power supply. I did contact Craig at Giz10p about this yesterday, maybe he can help us with the connectors.

Parris took some nice pictures of his connector for us:

It's pretty clear to me now that an ATX connector does NOT fit there.

JST VH connectors are what you're after:

fun fact: They are also used as stereo connectors on Data East hardware such as The Great Ragtime Show and Thunder Zone. :awe:

Are you 100% certain about this Oxtsu? When I browse around for connectors, I think that Molex has connectors that looks more like the one on the Nanao, than your pictured JST. Also, JST are somewhat harder to find in my experience. :awe:

Something like this:

I'm certain of it. I went through my MS8 and MS9 variant (Windy) to identify what connectors/headers would be needed for a potential swap harness, and I had VH 4P on-hand to test (that connector is the same between MS8/MS9 btw).

That said, there are surely other connectors that will fit. It's quite common for manufacturers to make products very similar to one another.

VH seems to be more widely used so it shouldn't be as hard to find as other JST products. I see Digi-Key stocks them here in the US.

It certainly looks like a JST VH based on the photos taken by Parris.

Think I'll get some too.

Anyone from the uk want to combine shipping and save a couple quid?

Actually, just realised those ebay items are 30pcs each. So one order of a few pound would be plenty for all of us.
