Flo Tube Exchange Between Astro and Egret 2 - advice please!

Post by slapaham »

My Egret 2 from the Insert Coin order hasn't had a lit marquee since I got it so I thought it's about time I sorted it! I have a spare Astro City marquee and as my Astros have built in stepdowns I was wondering whether I could just take the tube out of my spare Astro marquee and put it into my Egret 2?

Here are a couple of pics of the two tubes... the top one being the (what I think is dead) Egret 2 tube, the bottom being the spare Astro tube - seem to be the same size...

is this a good idea or not? Can I actually do damage if it isn't? Advice please, cabby geniuses!

Well, tried it and it works! However, the fitting in the Egret 2 is a pain in the **** as it is so tight and the tube doesn't fit comfortably - the fitting kind of bucks out - as soon as I moved the cab back to it's residence the marquee didn't light, so I'll have to flip the front up tomorrow and tweak it a bit. Overall, looks like it works just fine, just have to get the tube sitting a bit more firmly and comfortably - which, by the looks of it, is going to be a tough job! :?

Cheers guys!

Mmm, just had a look at my own photos and the astro tube does look a little longer... perhaps thats why it doesn't fit too comfortably! :shifty:

Is it a good idea to have it billowing a bit? I won't be causing any damage will it? Seems to work okay and if I can get away with it I think I might stick with this option as getting the right tube will be a bit of a bitch in this country won't it?

AFAIK I was looking in my local DIY and there was a 44 and a 45 cm tube. Wonder if thats the same with these?
The screws used to seal up this cart are wood screws. Nobody is going to waste good wood screws on a bootleg, they'd just use cheap electronic screws instead.

Could possibly be - there certainly isn't much in it but enough to make it an uncomfortable fit!
