Go with whatever matches the decor. There are all sorts of different fabrics that turn up on YAJ.

I know somebody who did it with a Megalo 2 seat, just got a local shop to do it for him.

Re: Stool Recovering
i got a pair a stools in tokyo, one red and one black. the black was super cheap because someone looks like they tried stabbing it a couple times so i recovered it to match our leopard chez-lounge. it was easy to recover just unbolt top board and staple new fabric over top. also i got new black rubber feet as it had hard white plastic ones that looked lame. please dont flame me over the painted cabs, hehe

I think I'm gonna stick with the original red, if I can find the right material.

Re: Stool Recovering
I just recieved two pretty banged-up stools yesterday, right in the middle of restoring them a little.
Cleaned the frames with steel-wool. There was grey paint sprayed all over the frames. Now the chrome underneath is almost like new again.
Straightend the bend legs by carefully hitting it with a lump of wood. 7 out of eight legs are perfect again. The other 1 is a bit kinked but not to much.
Need to buy some new PVC caps for under the stool's legs. The ones on it are worn off completely to the metal on the bottom.
Tomorrow I am going to buy some fabric and foam for refurbishing the seats.
Take a sample of the original red fabric to find something similiar.

Fantastic work there, they look like new!joeks wrote:Finished refurbushing the stools! Looking great again.
I'm thinking of picking up some banquet chairs, like at IC09. They were just right for playing the cabs, and they can be had cheaply on ebay. And with more tasteful fabric!

Re: Stool Recovering
I've been asking around about those. Trent Pottery and Furniture do a nice range in more tasteful colours, but they're a few inches bigger than the stools.

Re: Stool Recovering
I'm looking at these ones, they look pretty comfy. Stools don't work for me either, need some back support

Arcade Stool Refurb
Obviously this is by no means difficult, but I was doing it anyway so figured I'd document for y'all. Every Item required except the stools themselves and the scissors are courtesy of fleabay.
Take one grubby arcade stool:

Note the nasty stains:

A large sheet of velour material in colour of your choice (I chose the classic arcade red):

A large sheet of black lining material for the underside of the seat - some stools have this, some don't; I'm gonna use it on all mine:

A 16 x 16 square of seating foam - original foam is between 0.5 and 1 inch depending upon the stool - i am going with 1 inch deep for extra comfort:

4 x 19mm white rubber ferrules:

1 x tube of Autosol chrome polish (not to be mistaken for Anusol, unless you want a shiny ring):

1 x heavy duty Staple Gun:

1 x tailor's scissors:

Unbolt seat, then use small pliers to pull out every staple:

Careful as you remove the foam as it'll have disintegrated quite a bit over the years.
Draw round the old foam using a sharpy:

Cut it ahhhht:

Experimental this bit. I trimmed an angle all the way round. This doesn't have to be super-even, as it is going to face *down* on the seat. My theory is that when I pull the cover edges tight, it will curve nicer at the edge:

When you're done, the foam should overhang the wooden seat by about 3/4 of an inch all the way round:

Put the foam to one side for now, and grab the lining material. Cut it roughly to size for the rear of the seat, poking holes for any hardware such as the bolts, and tack it in place in a few spots round the edge. Doesn't have to be super-tight or anything, just looks better than the wood imo. Iron the creases out of you can be arsed:

Next, place the pre-cut foam onto your velour (velour side down) and give it 1.5 inches extra all the way round. Cut out, then place it neatly face down, with teh foam in teh centre, and the seat on top:

Begin tacking the edges in place at the back with your staple gun. Occasionally turn it over and have a look to see where you need to tighten up to make it even:

When you're done, it will look something like this:

Next up, grab the **** cream, and shine your chrome as much as you can. Obviously it won't fix rust or pitting, but will shine it up and take off a lot of ****.

Filth!

Pop the ferrules on teh legs, bolt the seat back in place and... Finished!

One down, four to go...
