XiongBa Monitor Vertical Collapse

Post by Jahya »

Hey all,

I recently purchased a supposedly new XiongBa candy cabinet with a 29 inch wei-ya trisync monitor. I attached a known working pc/jpac rig to the chasis, turned the power on and I have a white line in the center of the monitor. Does anyone have experience with this? The jpac rig, works fine on my other cabs.

Was this caused by the Jpac? Is there anything I can do to repair this myself?

Try to connect your VGA D-Sub to the one supplied with your cabinet (at least there was one with my Xiong-Ba) bypassing the video feed from the J-Pac and see if you get a different result. And as Kernow said, are you sure you have a supported resolution?

Also, you have a "remote" for your monitor controls that should be taped to your coin box (you access this from the main door). Mine had come loose in transport, so it might be hanging from your monitor chassis.

I just remembered something. Try removing all of the jumpers on your J-Pac. If that doesn't work, try adding them back, one at a time. Turn off the cabinet between each added jumper. I haven't had my J-Pac connected to my Xiong-Ba in a while, but if I remember correctly, they do make a difference in this case.

The resolution is set to 640x288, the remote board is attached and does affect the line a little when the pots are adjusted. I did not see a direct vga input to the monitor but I will look when I get home. The jpac is functioning as I have it hooked to another cab now and it's working flawless.

Thanks for all the tips. I'll keep you updated.

Check your J-Pac jumpers. I believe that's the case. I really hope that your monitor hasn't died on the way from China to you.

Edit: The VGA port on my Xiong-Ba was located at the back. I've then rotated my chassis to enable better pot adjustment. My screen was far from it's best when I got my cabinet. Good luck!

Edit 2: If you have a Dreamcast with a VGA cable that works perfectly with the VGA port in the Xiong-Ba if you don't have any PCB's to try with this cab.

I've attached a photo of the issue.

Seems to match this definition:

Not sure if the remote board is connected properly. This is a new cabinet straight from the factory, so I'm just using at is was delivered. Only thing that was altered was the removal of the art to get past customs. I don't know the details of that, but thats what I was told. I'm not home right now, so I can't check the vga port yet. The seller has agreed to ship a new chasis , however I'd like to repair this one if possible. I did check all the caps for broken solder conenction and they were all in place.

well only likely thing on a new monitor to be the cause is like already stated, the remote board is either disconnected or plug loose-you would need to look under the cp i expect to find the remote
or
the vertical yoke deflection plug is not attached

In my Xiong-Ba, the remote is glued to top of the coin box, not hidden in the control panel. The control panel has spring locks, so you can't have it unlocked for easy access.

I disconnected and re-connected the remote board. Same thing. However after doing it twice, the monitor no longer displays a white line. Now it displays mostly black with a small color burst kind of in teh center, somewhat random. Too dark to take a picture of.

To be honest this cab looks far from new. Think I was scammed?

sounds bad but could be to do with the deflection yoke connectors-you should check that

I got my cab straight from the Chinese production line as well (Macrown). I had the exact same feeling, initially. The Chinese have a much looser definition of "quality" than us in the west. A bunch of people in Sweden did a group-buy of these, and not one of us was completely satisfied. I did some work on mine, you can see pictures of it on my web page.

I was sent a new chassis. However the guy is now saying I need an isolation transformer or it will blow the chassis again. The chassis he sent looks completely different than the one installed.

This is all new to me, but sounds like garbage. He is saying that since I have a PC connected to the same wall outlet, it is causing voltage issues, and that I either get and install this bob roberts isolation transformer, or I have to plug the PC into an outlet on a different breaker. That makes very little sense to me. Any ideas?
