Well, I came in planning on voting for the Dreamcast which is probably my favorite system.

Then I started thinking about my precious Neo Geo AES - the glittering prize of my console collection.

"But hold on" I thought... what about the PS2 with MGS3 (best of the series IMO), ICO, Colossus, God of War, etc etc?

And how about the SNES???

I started stressing around this point... staring wildly around the room at all 29 of my consoles and handhelds, wondering which to pick. (maybe I take this too seriously?)

Then I saw the words "which has the best memories for you". That made my choice easy. Mega Drive. I spent more hours on that system during my formative years than any other.

It's a slightly misleading topic title. I would not describe the MD as Best. Console. Ever... but due to my age, and more importantly the age I was when I first owned it, it is certainly the one that inspires the fondest feelings of nostalgia for me.

Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion anyone?

"Which holds the best memories for you?"

Well, as I was lucky (sensible) enough to get my hands on an engine not too long after all the hoo-haa in the UK press at the time -
I sorta grew up with it - buying the games as they came out and the CD-Rom / SuperGrafx / Handheld. The games got better and
more imressive and more original - I also purchased the other consoles - MD / Snes / NeoGeo etc.

But there's something special about PCEngine games - They don't pass through your collection, they're keepers.
I still have the MD and Snes etc but the collections are very small. The engine collection is still growing...

I voted PS1.

It was the first proper console I ever owned myself (except a Gamegear and CDI, neither of which count).

Before that it had been all "real computers" as my Dad calls them , i.e. Oric/Speccy/Sam Coupe/Amiga/PC etc.

I fell in love with RPGs on the PS1, and played games such as Vandal Hearts 1 & 2, Suikoden 1 & 2, WIld Arms, Harvest Moon etc for hours.

:)

A new Vandal Hearts game is coming to Xbox Live, yo.

I voted SNES. Finishing all 96 levels of SMW was a feeling like filling a Panini sticker album, and where I got my first taste of Street Fighter II.

Although had the poll included the Atari ST I would have voted for that in it's place hands down.

Lots of other reasons to vote for a lot of the other things on there, especially the Dreamcast

Where is the Atari Pong, Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Magnavox Odyssey, Colecovision, Mattel Intellivision, Nec Turbografix or even the Nintendo Virtual Boy?

You've even missed out simply the worst games console ever produced - the Amstrad GX-4000! Someone "might" have wished to vote for it (and been flame-grilled for doing so).

Anyway, I have voted PS1 by simple virtue of it being the console that started it off for me, however I would say Amstrad CPC 464 / 6128 as that was where my gaming route is - mine is 25 years old this year (released 1984) and it is STILL working! Before you ask, yeah it was my first ever computer, it's still boxed and I have a green screen monitor and a color because I have a spare, plus I still have my "upgrade" to the 6128!

First ever arcade game ever played on it "Paperboy"
