Audio Issues MVS Metal Slug 3
Appreciate you taking the time to stop by and read. Recently got an MCS MS3 and noticed the game runs and plays well but is experiencing audio issues. No music and sound crackles and gets worse over time.
I attached a video link of what it sounds like and I attached photos of the boards. My assumption is I need to identify an issue with the M-1 or V EPROMs and while the traces and boards in general have been testing positive for continuity I fee like I am missing something obvious.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
To this point I have:
- Confirmed proper 5V read out with a voltmeter
- Cleaned the contacts with 99% iso
- Cleaned the board with deoxIT
- Took the cart apart and reassembled to make sure nothing was backwards
- Tested the boards (without the case) in each slot of my MVH6. Verified other cartridges are performing without issue in all slots of my MVH6.
- Checked continuity at M-1, V1-4, and all associates traces
- 6Slot passes the Work RAM Test

Re: Audio Issues MVS Metal Slug 3
Sadly I’m in no position to help. I came in thinking it may be similar to an issue I had with one of my four slot motherboards rather than the cartridge, but I see you already established that it is not.
Good luck! Lots of knowledgeable people here. If you haven’t already, try ArcadeProjects too. Pretty techy bunch there.
Can I ask what BIOS you’re using to get that mature content warning?
I have two cabs with UniBIOS 4.0, one set to Europe, and one to Japan, and I’ve never seen it before!
Edit: Actually, I’m probably only half right here so please take this with a pinch of salt, but it might help to list the other games that are known working without issue. I know some carts use chips on the motherboard that others don’t, but sadly I don’t have anything more specific beyond that.
Good luck again. Top game!
