I love Pico-8 and receiving an RGB30 handheld at Christmas has got me going again. The full application is $15 and the games are freely playable in a browser, here:
lexaloffle wrote:PICO-8 is a fantasy console for making, sharing and playing tiny games and other computer programs. It feels like a regular console, but runs on Windows / Mac / Linux. When you turn it on, the machine greets you with a commandline, a suite of cartridge creation tools, and an online cartridge browser called SPLORE.
The harsh limitations of PICO-8 are carefully chosen to be fun to work with, to encourage small but expressive designs, and to give cartridges made with PICO-8 their own particular look and feel.
Shareable Cartridges
PICO-8 cartridges can be saved in a special .png format and sent directly to other users, shared with anyone via a web cart player, or exported to stand-alone HTML5, Windows, Mac and Linux apps.
Any cartridge can be opened again in PICO-8, letting you peek inside to modify or study the code, graphics and sound.
It's remained pretty popular for years so by now there are thousands of cool original games and experiments, and the ports/clones are always cute. Must be some fans here so I thought it'd be nice to share some favourites.
It was a great one, which didn't happen by chance tbh. Come on, who's heard of an RGB30?
Last year was great. After watching Portal 64 updates my youngest was determined to get me an N64 flashcart all on his little own, just after Christmas.
Single screen puzzle platform game. Amiga feeling with its chirpy Euro-platformer soundtrack, but with a great twist. So I recommend avoiding scrolling the above page as any screenshot will spoil it
It's about forty minutes to complete like many Pico8 games.
One nice thing about discovery via Splore (Pico8's built in game browser) is that you go in blind, but you have to have the full application for that.

this is a great little fun game ,love it
<trk>:I remember catching a big fat one and my friend said "throw it back in, that one already tastes like wood"
Ten pages there, not including some unhosted/paid ones. I bought Rampaging on Itch the other day. Seemed slightly silly when there are already too many great free games but it's only $2.

That lovely Stick!
First time I've actually used it. Had to change a couple of dodgy microswitches after wondering why so many pico8 games set controls with hold down to breakdance.
