Extremely hard to get your hands on a decent machine. If RKlok has an Astro or something listed, you're talking between €2,500 and €3,000.

Oh you want an Ibara PCB to go with that? That'll be another €1,400 euro mate. So potentially €4,000 for one machine and one Cave game.

After two months of play, some caps on the chassis go bad, monitor no longer turns on.

Annoying but not the end of the world and palatable to sort out if the cabinet cost you €700. Maybe not quite so if it cost you €3,000.
Meh there's still plenty of cheap ways in, Candy's and cave are niche somewhat and not everyone needs these in reality ,there's still plenty of 60 to 100 quid games cabs not much more . Every hobby has things that attract a high fee

@emphatic I feel your pain on the vinyl was working my way back picking up a few I never got around to having or picking back up and took a break during covid and well started looking again last year , let's just say some are just of the cards now. But i'm okay with that I can't miss what I can't justify afford or never had

Yep, it's not so bad outside of shmups and there's nothing wrong with a woody. :shifty:

A Naomi with a MiSTer or Groovymame is a great affordable entry point.

Going to the pub still remains a more expensive hobby, and there's no resale value.

Pretty much like it across all UK forums now not much comes up for sale woddy or otherwise.

I knew things were getting tight when Mo sold all his Vewlix/Noir's at the start of the year from having loads just 2 months prior.

Agreed. A lot of late 90s / early 00s cabs are also failing right about now. Cheap cabs if you like to fix things yourself.

True, there's plenty of cheap ways to get into arcade gaming. A classic generic woody in good shape for 150 euro and some nice cheap pcb's or multi and you're good to go.
Some neogeo games and their art/design still blows me away.

I have to be honest, I play most stuff on PC, cause online play or safe states. That’s how I can enjoy more and learn the games. For me Arcade is community, repair and enjoy games together. Before putting money I don’t have in a game or cab, I just go on a trip to Japan right now and enjoy everything there with other players and a cab in its natural environment.
Started with pinball machines, but this is even more insane right now. They disappear more in the wild and for enjoying this hobby I can’t afford a machine for 9000€. Arcade got a new revival on console right now. If you want, you can enjoy the game. So great! And that’s what it is all about. Playing videogames. There are communities all around Europe. You can join and enjoy everything. Therefore, we honor a real crt with OG hardware even more.

Ah, I'm specifically referring to candy cabinets. Woodies don't even register in my mind at all anymore tbh, I have transcended

yeah but lets not forgot the unclean ! there is also "shudders" arcade1ups and for what they are , they can scratch an itch or offer a way in for others .... multis and conversions have taken away some of the cheap games but still plenty about.

Managed to move 2 machines upstairs so far , mrs even helped a bit  centipede was an absolute **** (had to try and lighten it ,E2 was easier although i had to take the cp off once upstairs to go through the door :problem: !! Determined to get them up without stripping (insert lazy gif) aero should be ok but may need more breathers and mt-8 no idea as i have no gauge on what it weights will try it and see , might be an issue with as initial d will need to be stripped into a 1000ps or ill just sell it off :( :wtf:

one positive is I've had issue with back and leg for a while and my right quad has had no feeling for the last few months so who'd have thought pulling 100+kgs cab up a stairs would help relieve that ! :awe:

Are you setting up a dedicated games room in one of the upstairs bedrooms? Will have to stick up a few photos when it's done.

Fair play on bagging a missus willing to lift arcade machines  , mine would probably cry laughing at even the remotest suggestion of the idea!
