Guess who saw Phantom Menace at Metreon in 1999?
I remember the arcade being weird, not just the decor but the games as well. The arcade was themed after a comic book by Moebius and had this steampunk vibe.
None of the games I hadn't seen before, or since. According to Wikipedia, apparently all of them were made for the arcade, which is wild.
The game in the above pic was a multiplayer game that reminded me of Tribes on the PC. There were rows of cabs, all having the same game. The controller for it looked like an airplane yoke.
Here's a better pic I found of it:
Definitely a bespoke cab.
IGN has a list of all the arcade games in their article about the Metreon:
I'm pretty sure the game was Quaternia.

IGN has a list of all the arcade games in their article about the Metreon:
The Airtight Garage is not quite the pinnacle of arcade greatness we had hoped for. With an organic architectural design created by French graphic novelist Jean Moebius Giraud, the half dozen coin-op games range from redemption-style units to wanne-be action titles to Tetris-style Vegas games. The arcade itself is designed with dark browns, greens, and black, and is strewn with Alien-style tubes, cords, and industrial gadgetry. In the large setting, games are placed in lines along the walls and in quadrants in the center. A refreshment bar rests serenely at the arcade's far end.
Players can tap into several kinds of games: Quaternia: The Biolab (third-person capture the flag), Hyperbowl (giant bowling), Badlands, XSG (corridor shooter), Chip Away (Tetris with gambling chips), and Savage Quest (side-view dinosaur "eating" action game), among others. Honestly, if you've played coin-ops in real arcades or you are a hardcore console or PC gamer, none of these would interest you for more than a few minutes. The most novel - and entertaining -- of the all is the Hyperbowl, in which gamers get the chance to maneuver a dinosaur-sized bowling ball through silly settings, including a great walkway, a rocking boat, and the best of all, up and down the streets of San Francisco. Chip Away is almost as good as Tetris, and Savage Quest is fun in a kind of primitively savage, ripping flesh sort of way.
I'm pretty sure the game was Quaternia.

Look what I found! Same cab converted to regular stick and button controls for Marvel:
I wonder if one still exists somewhere.

Throw a Power Spikes type sports game in that Blue Sky cab and it could be worse

Re: Various unlisted cabinets and others (pics/flyer)
the cab has a swiss coin counter but it's marked in italian so it makes sense the sticks are Edierre brand bat joysticks with honeywell microswitches , a bit clunky similar to the stuff found in Rit legno cabs (balltop version) , itself more or less a clone of Industrias Lorenzo "universal" model, screw-in joystick (A03331) . thing is the edierre and other clones were even worse and didn't have the sanwa jlw style black restrictor the universal model had.

Re: Various unlisted cabinets and others (pics/flyer)
more Daisho Shokai brand promo material (apparently the latest version is "Daisho Shoukai" in English, though it should be Daishou Shoukai... Go figure) :
* Daisho Shoukai "QP26" cocktail, 1989 (can see sanwa jlw bat joysticks stock too, on a sanwa panel too). Odd naming since "QP26" was used for prototype upright cab with a monitor laying screen-up, the image being mirrored (post viewtopic.php?p=568046#p568046)

*Daisho Shoukai "New Tenga 50" from '93 before SNK dropped it and the rebranded version as well to go straight for the sega super megalo style instead

*more promo for the previously shown Daisho Shoukai "Tachi Tenga 4/2", the brand proudly flexing their collaboration/licensing deal with SNK. Thing is the Tachi Tenga 4/2 never made it to the SNK catalog in any shape or form, probably too euro style. On the bottom left you can see the "Tenga 50" discussed before, basically the model just before the "new tenga 50"/early neo 50

Re: Various unlisted cabinets and others (pics/flyer)
A little question, here some Jaleco pony mkIV are demoed but on the right you can see a row of Taito egret 29 cabs at Passca '93.
Is it me or the speaker grills don't look like the final version? Could be a pre-release proto since it's still 1993.

After Namco consolette 26 conversion to racing upright cab for the game Dirt Fox (only in Japan), now it's time for Jaleco "Pony type" (really mk.II 28" version model converted) to get the same treatment in this ad . Again only for Japan, as the western version of Jaleco Rally Big Run 4WD was completely different and the flyer archive doesn't have any promo material for the JP version btw.

Re: Various unlisted cabinets and others (pics/flyer)
Cosmo clones of Tecmo Sound Lava Economy model in this june 1989 promo; coined "Twin Cam 25" and Twin Cam 26 Super" . Maybe I'm blind, but seems like 2x the same pic to me, plus both control panels say "26 super" bottom right corner (need to zoom in a lot).

A month later July 1989 the promo comes back but seemingly revised, the Twincam25 is back, but seems to blend Tecmo Sound Lava Economy's general shape with a hint of Tecmo Urban graphic style, albeit less appealing.

late 89 promo:

One could wonder if the engrish here is done on purpose or not : "maker of pioneer that big monitor game machine"
Worse than any line SNK could ever pull off. "For new mankind", no comment.

Re: Various unlisted cabinets and others (pics/flyer)
From "Kyoritsu" company (Kyouritsu Kougyou) , motto "creating the future with creativity and technology", a couple 93/94 cabs :

*Twin Alpha 25 (tsuin arufa 25) with a funny way of writing it : IIin α α . A versus style "tent" cab from late 93 early 94 .Sure looks like the Cosmo "Cosmos lambda 25" but it isn't if you look closely and obviously is a competing product with a very similar moniker

early 94 promo:

* "VVII" (aka "VVII daburu katami-tai" more or less "double case/enclosure")
Same company, all steel panel construction versus cocktail, but no angled monitor, just two of them side by side but with inversed up&down screen orientation to get something versus style. 2x nanao 18" monitors :

*same brand, some obscure "KS Up light cabinet series" KS1 & KS2 cabs and an "25 inch All-Lite Cabinet" (visibly cloning SNK MVS-U* series cab design) sporting a nanao 25" monitor. Latter cab supposedly has a patented mechanism holding the monitor, but I'm not really sure what they mean exactly (maybe eases an eventual monitor rotation if needed, maybe not a mech at all...)

Re: Various unlisted cabinets and others (pics/flyer)
a slight off-topic but nonetheless interesting :
Midway had a booth at the 35th Amusement Machine Show (1997) in Japan, where Mortal Kombat 4 (never released in Japan) was demoed on ....SNK Neo 50 II projector cabs.. unusual to say the least.

Re: Various unlisted cabinets and others (pics/flyer)
I bet an MK tournament back in the day over there would have an instant top 8 from the entire country. Also I remember those RPTV cabs the picture really looked like **** from my memory, likely didn't help a game as ugly as MK4

Re: Various unlisted cabinets and others (pics/flyer)
previously unknown Namco "V2" versus tent cab spotted on yaj (id : g1154817157)! It's a rebranded Kyoritsu "SuperTwin" ( specified on cab , brand phonetized itself as "Kyoritu Kogyo" and renamed the cab model for Namco as V2 ) , which I posted about before in this thread ( viewtopic.php?p=568325#p568325 )

V2 aka Supertwin came before VVII (aka Twin Alpha 25, see posts above) . I wonder if they did other one off jobs for Namco or other major companies.
