@Shou I just purchased a second-hand Exa and 2 games from a member. I'm in need of a little assistance. I've sent a PM direct, but I'm not sure you read PMs as you probably get a ton of them. Thank you in advance for any help.

It drives me insane that I can't arrange the games alphabetically. I've shuffled the games half a dozen times and SDOJ always goes before A&B.

I always wondered how this works. Is it whichever demo loads fastest?

I got the other cab sorted. I had to plug in the carts one by one in reverse order.

However, on the other cab SDOJ doesn't want to play nice and always jumps the queue :problem:

Well, although I enjoy the system, here is my BUYER BEWARE statement.

I purchased an exA-Arcadia motherboard and the two Cave games second hand. All three items have full warranty seal on them. I contacted exA to have the three updated, and upon receiving my serial numbers they said none of the three were eligible for service of any kind. They did not explain why and stopped replying to me. After two more emails from me asking them why without reply I PM’d @shou who received my PM but also did not reply.

So, if you buy these second hand beware you may have no recourse on service. The seller has offered me a full refund, however the whole experience is a bit of a downer. If the team is made up of actual arcade lovers as they claim, it’s does seem like that love does not extend to the individual collector community.

I also wonder what I could do if I (or anyone) purchased directly from exA and they just ghosted them on the warranty. What can we do? Contact our respective consumer protection agencies?

Finally, I may still keep these items, since the warranty is no longer supported I could open them up and at least share photos with the community. However, there are no piracy plans from my end, so please don’t ask because despite their bad customer service, it’s a small company making new arcade games and I don’t plan on hurting their chances to be successful.

That is disappointing. I would’ve assumed they would at least offer updates/repairs for a fee.

@XtraSmiley , did the original buyer use a proxy to buy the carts from Japan? I think that exA have already stated they offer no support on purchases like that.

I'd take the refund and order them straight from exa if i were you, there are plenty of reports of pc's and carts dying so it seems like an expensive gamble to me. I do wonder what the reason is though, I guess what zak said, cant think of anything else.

Btw there are people that opened the carts and made pics, iirc its basically an m2 ssd with a dongle in a plastic enclosure

Good info guys, thank you. I wasn’t planning on busting the carts open, just the motherboard, but good to know info is already out there.

Thanks again. SOME info from them would have been nice, but like I said, I’m not a hater, I’m enjoying it so far!

Not Japanese, I think there is a specific issue at stake, but it’s not for me to say, and I’m only hearing one side. I’ll be happy to share the full story I got IF I finalize this purchase.

I’m not one to hide info if it’s my info to share but I respect other people as would be expected.

First, let’s be very clear that you did not purchase a single item from exA or an authorized distributor. For a “huge” fan as you claim, you certainly went out of your way (we know all about all of the proxies you tried to use in Japan), to not directly buy from us. Purchasing secondhand does not support exA in any way but still you expect the same level of support and a warranty. Furthermore, you expect an immediate response from me by DM. No warranty or service is guaranteed by exA for a product not sold by exA or an authorized distributor.

You contacted support and were told that these items are ineligible for servicing. All of these items are well past the warranty period. There have been quite a few customers who have asked before buying secondhand if a given game or system is eligible for support and we have verified accordingly. There have even been cases of stolen systems or games where we have helped the original owners and law enforcement with recovering said items through this process.

The individual you purchased these items secondhand from has been blacklisted for criminal activity and trying to using several proxies. If he wanted to amicably resolve the outstanding issue, he can contact us, the district attorney or local law enforcement at any time.

For direct customers, we have supported product well beyond their warranty periods such as those who purchased in 2019 and generally serviced them for no charge plus shipping fees. No other arcade manufacturer does that.

We will continue to provide significant updates for the system and games at no cost. Touhou 1 and Noisz will see new game modes and QoL improvements in updates this summer.

I had the video carousel issue not proceeding to the next title with version 1.6.0 (now fixed 1.6.1), worked around it by changing the demo order to random, rather than cycle to next game. Apparently it only occurred with a certain combination of cartridges installed anyway.

I'm wondering if we will see Super 56 at some point, would make a nice mid range price game?

This is a total **** answer.

I buy games from Japan all the time using proxy sellers, that’s not illegal. Exa products are cheaper there, why wouldn’t we go that route? Your website says games from ANY region work on the motherboard. I didn’t see anything that says you cannot mix and match games.

I am a huge fan, but I’m not dumb with money!

Next, warranty is not spelled out as far as time goes. Is it 1 month, 1 year, how long? I did NOT ask for warranty service, I asked for game updates, as posted on your site.

Finally, I can NOT believe these are stolen items. How would someone steal a motherboard and system from you? I have the original boxes and they were clearly mailed to the buyer who I purchased from. Come on man, that’s a ridiculous response.

There’s clearly something else going on here and you’re being very shifty and accusing in your reply. As far as I know I haven’t done anything toward your company or you personally. Maybe you’re mad people buy these systems from Japan cheaper because of the Yen exchange, but I don’t know how that affects you in the slightest. It’s not illegal as far as I know and I never even bought from Japan, as I think the store just said no, and that was that.

Firmware support should be indefinite and warranty period should be clearly spelled out.

I assume you’re operating out of a non-European country to avoid these requirements, which is probably why you’re being a bit of a hard **** about things.

That’s fine, but hence my BUYER BEWARE comment. People can decide on their own.

By the way, I called triple **** anything being stolen if it is, I’ve shared with you all serial numbers of everything I have. I welcome you to send law-enforcement to my house to pick them up. If you say they’re stolen I will turn them over and also give the name and address of the person I got them from.

Such a ridiculous thing to accuse someone, but IF it’s true, I’d be happy to help in ANY way possible. You and Exa have my contact information.

Somehow I doubt anyone will be ringing my doorbell.

At least in the UK and EU, buying from a private seller means your warranty is with them, not the original retailer or manufacturer. Transferrable warranties are damn rare.
