The mirror 26 looks great. But I feel it's overengineered with the euro style front drawer that usually makes servicing and swapping games so easy. Some eurocabs even had a 230V lightbulb fixture screwed in for extra lighting help. No more flashlights in your mouth. :D But I don't know if it's a good idea to put the monitor down there too. That's something that not's touched as frequently as everything else. (especially when new).

Anyone ever see evidence that those Mirror 26 cabinets went into a production run? Photos in a Japanese arcade maybe?

I see the flyer has a line of four of them so we can at least assume that many were made. :D

They're really very cool. The mirror design with the slanted back almost makes them look like they have LCDs.

just a crappy 10sec paint job freehand for the forum, I took inspiration from capcom new concept II 2p panel & what I saw on the low res scan taking in consideration the perspective!

Interesting! In Gamest they advertized over and over using simultaneously "TBox" and 東京ボックス ( "Tōkyō Bokkusu" = Tokyo Box ) as seen on the ad I reposted here. In guess it's common practice in the industry

Looking at the photo of Gradius IV demoed on a Konami Plasma cab which I added to the wiki, something felt off: the base of the chassis, the bezel & the control panel design didn't look the same as on the flyer posted before on the wiki, not just the color (catalog design features a side art graphic ala windy cp), it reminded me of a catalog page I saw, but since it was low res , never kept it. Found it again and indeed it's different (added it to the wiki too just for the sake of it even if the pic is crap quality), go figure out which one came first or is even a proto, the dark colored base model or the one as shown in the catalog & expo featuring gradius iv ....
here' s just a side by side comparison

Wondering why Taito renamed the IAS cab "IDYA" ? AOU92 featured both the Taito (proto) simulator cab IAS and the Sega AS-1, imo the names were too identical (IAS vs AS1), not to mention the general outlines of both cabins themselves... so who knows, Taito probably under pressure yielded and later renamed it IDYA. If someone knows more about the lore of the cab's renaming, don't hesitate to chime in!
Both the Sega AS1 and Taito IAS were presented practically side by side in AOU92 reports & articles, here's one cropped on purpose from the same mag, same article:

vertexer was designed for idya indeed, maybe the guy who did the video had the rom dumped somehow !

konami's motion cab : thought about including it in the wiki, but were there enough games? speed king, solar assault & gti club come to mind. Solar Assault was really great, never tried the motion cab though. here's the article about speed king presented at aou95 :
Image

weird that the article says it runs on "dragoon might" (same hardware as said game?) , I thought speed king, solar assault & gti club were on powerpc based systems (ZR107 & GTI club systems respectively) , dragoon might was on GX system iirc

the warning for the virtual gear type cab  "those who are intoxicated" milkshake incoming...as for the pregnant women, no comment

SNK super neo 29 demoed at AM Show 1995 :

seemed it was worth adding to the wiki.

am show version looks imo different (header design) , quite probably a prototype...
LCD header in the middle is not the culprit, it's more the overall size of the header + shape of the loudspeakers

final release :

more from 33rd AM Show (1995) :
Image

looks like a SEGA Super Megalo given the shape & what's visible of the logos... but with an unidentified , much larger monitor (seems flatter too). maybe a roll-up projection screen? hard to say, the pic isn't good quality.

@Shou is a member here and collector of highly rare pcb's and prototypes. He's a valuable source of information in the community.

Nobody is under any obligation to publicly release their prototype dumps. When it comes down to it, they're valuable due to being unreleased. Releasing them is a kindness as it's them basically burning their own money.

late 1985 article (cropped for the sake of clarity) about IREM's Battle Bird which has both a peculiar shape and an unusual tech at the time for an arcade. For those who don't already know, it uses for a stereoscopic 3d effect 2 CRT tubes positioned at 90° one from the other along with polarizing filters and a semi transparent mirror to combine the images inside the cab before they're split again
Image
Beep magazine featured an article on the tech in february 1986, pretty well explained :
Image

shmuplations website had an article on it too (developer's interview)
https://shmuplations.com/battlebird/

you can see a pic from the Beep mag article showing a closeup of the internal structure and a cropped part of the game 's jp flyer 1st page .

complete flyer (JP) on klov:

"Super Twin" cocktail cab distributed by Rollertron (mid 80s) but apparently made by Kyoritsu aka "Kyoritu Kogyo".

Apparently it featured one game per side so not really a versus cab unless I got it wrong.

Image

KONAMI demoed ''Super Basketball'' ,"Mikie: High School Graffiti " and "Road Warrior" on unusual arcade cabs which seemed to be... bartops at the AM Show #22 in 1984 .
The report states they were "special arcade cabinets with innovative designs" . Never saw those in real life personally, not even sure they were released.
Image

almost forgot: I finally added the nichibutsu/nihon bussan category on the wiki, even if it has only one cab for the moment. digging further, I found out the round cocktail was really released in 1984 and demoed for the first time for the public to test with 3 games at the AM Show ( 3 games were: Night Gal mahjong, Itazura Tenshi , Roller Jammer iirc) , plus there were at least 9 different ads & flyers showing the cab . almost all the color flyers are from klov, the b&w ads I found in jp magazines, some had an alternate version of the flyer. other cab pics are from usual auctions etc. If you have any suggestions ...

Added also Jaleco "change-up" 3 mode cocktail cab to the wiki. It was misidentified by some as Jaleco's "18 inch table before" but it's really a different animal. table 18 is just a classic cocktail.
Checked all the relevant ads & articles for the full specs forgot to post about it here first since it really is an unusual cab with it's hinged top panel flaps & pivoting monitor : https://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/Jaleco_Change_Up
Unless I missed something, it was released at a convention for testing in 1985. Pony lava clone (NOT the taller pony) added also just for the giggles.
