CAVE CV1000 Bootlegs
And so it begins.
Just a heads up that someone on eBay has started selling "conversions" of CV1000D games that are in fact bootlegs. Akai Katana, DFK BL and SDOJ so far.
Relatively easy to identify from the gold plated pins and lack of serial sticker. Very pricey for a bootleg, but quite an expensive endeavour to be fair. No idea where they're sourcing the parts.

Re: CAVE CV1000 Bootlegs
Speculations are running wild and it's discussed at Arcade Projects. Likely someone got hold of the gerber files since it's 1:1 (or very close). I can't imagine trying to painstakingly decap each layer of the pcb and draw it up...
They sold so far for 1600 and 1300 usd but the seller counteroffered on ebay with 1000 usd, so they will likely come down a lot more. Especially if it leaks out in China and ends up on Ali.
The "only" shady thing is them trying to pass it off as conversions instead of boots.

It will be really interesting to see if they can mass produce CV1000-D pcbs ... or if these were one-offs.so they will likely come down a lot more. Especially if it leaks out in China and ends up on Ali.
unknown at this point as nobody will have their order from china yetsven666 wrote: April 5th, 2024, 4:16 pm Does it run 100% anyone know?

Still too expensive for me.... What has the world come to when you can't afford a boot

To be fair as the look like 1:1 copy I would have nearly assumed they were cons as wellaerobert wrote: April 5th, 2024, 3:06 pm Speculations are running wild and it's discussed at Arcade Projects. Wow, this is pretty impressive stuff. I can't imagine even the bootlegs dropping to any sane price though.
Any bootleg cave-bubblewrap yet?

Re: CAVE CV1000 Bootlegs
I would be up for grabbing one of these maybe $300 max per title, I have no idea how much these cost to build but the price has to be reasonable they are likely going for the 60-80% markup bait, paying 1k for one game is **** stupid real hardware or not, I'd rather buy a Mister or a Darksoft, and M2 PS4 ports for $50 basically have me spoiled. If they can do this then a multicart setup will be possible at some point. Glad I sold all my expensive boards and don't look for them anymore. No one is going to sell their car to buy a real Cave PCB now with 1:1 boots out. This also means even more scams on the horizon get ready for complete kits fooling morons that don't know any better or trades where they pass off real boards in the photos and you get one of these.

Re: CAVE CV1000 Bootlegs
Once they get some rip off sales out of their system the sweet selling spot has got to be $1000 multis innit. Still painful but if they're good then the market shows it'll pay that for a quality multi.NASguy wrote: April 5th, 2024, 11:01 pm I would be up for grabbing one of these maybe $300 max per title, I have no idea how much these cost to build but the price has to be reasonable they are likely going for the 60-80% markup bait, paying 1k for one game is **** stupid real hardware or not.

People still sell their cars for games on various systems that have flash carts, repros and boots available, so they will continue to do so here tooNASguy wrote: April 5th, 2024, 11:01 pm No one is going to sell their car to buy a real Cave PCB now with 1:1 boots out.

Re: CAVE CV1000 Bootlegs
Its not april fools. Its been on ebay for a long time. Well after i was discussing with my friends about the possibilty of cave conversions and cave multi if they dont exist already. Its technically possible and the next step for evolution.
Nothing will effect the original hardware though. Those that buy these will always be the ones that cant afford the original anyway. Its been historically proven.

Yeah, so far every time an alternative's developed that we think might devalue original hardware it does the opposite. Ends up a stepping stone that drives interest in originals if anything.

Re: CAVE CV1000 Bootlegs
I think it’s good news all round so long as nobody gets scammed. I didn’t buy the games as an investment and it’s reassuring to know I can get a replacement if a PCB dies. That’s assuming they play 1:1. I think a multi is still a way off, but I’d buy one for convenience.
