The Big Fighting Game Thread

Post by TheRedKnight »

To save us from multiple threads that die and posts that are scattered all over the place, I hereby decree that both console and arcade fighting games, new and old, are welcome for discussion in this very thread. News about releases, community events, video links... anything of interest goes.

Killer Instinct turns 10 years old and will get a balance patch. It's available on Xbox and PC, and is well regarded among fighting game fans. It's also one of the first big fighting games to implement rollback netcode.

What are you playing or looking forward to?

I played KI on Xbox for a while when it came out and enjoyed it more than the originals.

Despite owning loads, I'm not really into fightemups and they don't get a lot of credits. They're only truly enjoyable when you have someone of equal skill to play against.

I bought SFVI on PS5, along with an expensive new stick, and inevitably it's only been played for an hour or two. :palm:

I like KI 2013 and KI2. Original KI and KI Gold are a mess. Been thinking about getting an Xbox One just to play KI2, but since there's no 4:3 resolution support I've given up on that idea. I need to check if MAME emulation for it is any good these days. I'll be there day one to test our the new patch for KI 2013.

It's a common misconception that you need someone of equal skill to play with to have fun. If you play with someone more skilled than you are and are able to learn through communication or other resources, you will become a better player and possibly find more people to play with. Fighting games are more fun when you know what you're doing. But if the better player has no interest in helping you learn, then that's a different story.

No comments about SFV. I can't give an unbiased opinion about it. But I'd recommend picking any game that interests you with rollback netcode. Though, not all of them have an active playerbase in Europe, even if the game is amazing. Also, not all games have crossplay...

KnockOff from Mecanimal Games (Vs Fighting)

Post by jimmerd »

Well this certainly looks pretty cool and is coming to Steam. Reminds me of Chaos breaker a little.

It's using the same game engine (UFE) used by others like Fight of the Gods.

I actually just stumbled upon this on Twitter yesterday. It looks promising. I used to collect knock-off toys so this is right up my alley. The character models up close look amazing. It's like some parts have 100% authentic 80/90s toys paintjobs.

I really hope they have a proper soundtrack for the final release instead of the generic pseudo-80s whatever that's in the trailer.

So, the big update to Killer Instinct will upgrade the game to Killer Instinct Anniversary Edition. It's free to those who already own the game.

So, it was real, and it's coming out on the 28th on the APM3.

Nice. But of course I personally want to see this come out on Steam, so that we can all forget the Dreamcast port for good. A Japan only arcade release doesn't do much for me.

In more ways than one, if the input lag that was in APM3 VFesports is in this one as well.

Interesting to read that it seems to have come about, in part, from one guy at Ryo Ga Gotoku Studio and his obsession with emulating Model 3. Presumably that's why the new Yakuza got Daytona 2.

A Model 3 console collection would be awesome, but I doubt we'll see Scud Race because of the car licensing. :(

Just heard from someone who knows someone who was there to play it: no noticeable input lag.

Aoki mentioned a collection like that would be possible if there's enough demand. But that's exactly the kind of **** Sega pulls off. Pretends to have a connection with their fanbase. If they actually listened to their fans everything would be completely different since the late 90s. Instead they pull off all kinds of out-of-this-world stunts they've been working on in complete secrecy. Game Gear Micro and the Cyber-Stick re-release for MD2 Mini are perfect examples.

Looks like its a big re-release:

That would be great :awe: Curious to see if it adds anything that would warrant booting this instead of model3emu

Anniversary Edition update is live. I tried it out and after all these years it's still a fantastic game, and premium quality experience compared to a kertain series' PC releases.

Subtle Style shocks the fighting game world by releasing a new EN-Eins Perfektewelt: Anastasis update/character trailer with no cinematics.
