Anyone converted a naomi gun cab to standard?
Hi All - i will be starting a restoration thread when i get 5 seconds but i bought a Naomi Universal which was a dedicated Gun cab the other day. My plan is to use coins however, silly me assuming all the cabs were the same have realised that the Base doesnt have a hole cut out on the right for a coin door, and ive since realised there is a small metal coin chute that runs down the inside right leg from the under side of the control panel to the base which isnt there, and finally inside the control panel where the coin mech/ and coin mech caddy should be is nothing with the holes blanked out... This is all fully normal for a gun cab as the coin system is in a separate unit which holds the guns and start buttons.
Is it therefore fairly straight forward for me to convert to a coin machine if i purchased the chute, coin mech, and then perhaps cut a hole in the base and added a coin door/bucket?. If anyone can confirm this is whats needed that will be great, im new to these Naomis so all help appreciated.
Thank you

Why make the coin chute at all? Theres plenty of space in the panel to place a smaller bucket right below where the coinmech fits. Unless you expect to have a massive amount of coins i think it will suffice?

Hi sven. Sorry. Do you mean there is plenty of space between the base and bottom of control panel for a bucket?. Well yes there is, but it wouldnt look too great would it plus i want the bucket behind the usual lockable door in the base so you cant easily grab more money and continue.... Im thinking giving my kids say x5 coins only for one game so they learn to actually care about dying within said game and not an infinite credit / fun sapping situation

I mean inside the control panel, right where the coin lands, you wont fit a sega bucket but youll easily find something more shallow to fit a couple of hundred credits.

Ahhhh god damn. So im new to these and its all taken apart in my cold garage down the road so i cant easily look. Thats brill. I wouldve thought the bottom of the coin mech left no gap between it and the top/start of the coin chute below. Wow this could solve ALOT of problems!!

Hi again. When you get a moment are you able to take another pic of the space between where the coin runs through and out the bottom of the coin mech. Youre saying theres room for a small tub right? It looks like it, but is that a naomi cab? Not astro/blast etc? (Perhaps they have the same void space also anyway)

Its a nuc (nnc has the same panel too), astros and blasts are completely diffrent.
Mine has the upper coin chute plastic in the picture but take that out and youll easily fit a small bowl or a bag there good for ~100 coins...

Ah i see. So there is an upper part of the chute which connects to the metal one you can see from outside the machine. Simply remove the upper plastic one and that gives room.. brill. Thats a great suggestion thanks.. i dont suppose you have a coin mech/caddy that i can buy to fit in mine do you? Mine has nothing at all in there.

Re: Anyone converted a naomi gun cab to standard?
This is the whole bracket.
Tbh if you dont have it and youre not going to put the cab in public id just put a switch right beneath where the coin drops in and just give a credit to whatever drops thru.

Ah. So it seems that i need that metal caddy type thing AND a coi. Mech. Or. As you say, the caddy plus a simply switch to register an object dropping through... Its only to be used in our family arcade for the kids. They need to understand the importance of death in games. Im fed up with them finding games boring due to infinite health, lives, continues.... Time to make turtles hard again with a handful of credits

Re: Anyone converted a naomi gun cab to standard?
well, i dont have ANY of the metal work, brackets, coin mechs in my coin panel.. its just a coin shaped hole at the top and from there the coin could drop anywhere inside the control panel.. Ill have to take apic. remember it was a gun cabinet so ALL the coin related gubbins were taken out. I think i need at the very least, that metal coin mech caddy you have shown PLUS that switch in your last post. Which should work i reckon
